THE ADVENTURE CONTINUES.....SEPTEMBER 2016

9-8-16  Thursday 6:39 AM (Haiti Time) - Bon Repos, Haiti - Air Mobile Base Camp - Report submitted by:  Air Mobile Joe

A STORMY DAY IN HAITI

Was up early yesterday and made the run to the airport.  It was good to see that the Little Donkey made it through the night.  The "anchor" system worked.

But...the "stormy weather" was not over.  Currently, this region is just covered in storms and thankfully, they're not (for the moment) growing into major "trouble-makers"!

As you can see from this image taken yesterday, Haiti was nearly 100% covered in thunderstorms.

Getting around town can be very challenging.  Haiti is usually in some sort of "Grid-Lock" in good weather.  In bad weather....you can only imagine.

I had to get up to Petionville, just south of Port-au-Prince to meet with a dear friend, Leo.  Leo was a past Director General of OFNAC (FAA of Haiti).

We share a heart to minister with Haitians who are having an extremely hard time in the Dominican Republic (DR).

We discussed ways that we can work together to bring help to those who have been "rejected" by the DR and Haiti.  Many are "stuck" in a "no mans land".  With God's help, we'll be able to do something.

After that good meeting with Leo, I fought through the stormy weather and insane traffic for another meeting with OFNAC on Search & Rescue (SAR).

The meeting went well as we're moving closer and closer to seeing Haiti have a strong SAR Program.  Again, with our Lord's help, we'll see this become a reality.

Today, will be in more meetings.  Looks like the stormy weather has diminished (for now), so it'll be a bit easier to get around.

Just hoping to not run into any "Manifestations" (riots), as things are still quite tense with the "election" season here in Haiti.

Again, extremely blessed to have you on-board with your precious prayer, love and support!!

A "STORM" IN THE NIGHT IN HAITI

Had been following a weather system to the southeast of Hispaniola for several days.  Last night, it "arrived" in Haiti.

These kind of storms usually diminish at night, but...they can also grow in intensity.  We saw that with the "long-lived" Hermine that lasted over 3 weeks.

At the general aviation airport in Port-au-Prince, there are very few "tie-down" spots.  One must improvise to secure ones aircraft.

I already had "chocked" the wheels when I arrived several days ago.  But, a little extra "securing" would be a good thing with the storm coming.

It was in the late afternoon that I decided to make the run to the airport to secure "Ti Burik".  The problem with this plan is that I'd have to travel some dangerous roads at night.

While driving, I called Cindy (have a hands-free blue tooth) and asked for prayer.  Then I called my best friend, Joe (who introduced me to Jesus 45 years ago) and recruited him for prayer.  The trip to the airport went smooth and quiet.

Upon arrival, all of the gates were closed and locked except...one little side gate that was tied with wire.  I entered and found the lone security officer, Augustine.  I explained my plan and he agreed to help.

As I said earlier, there were no "tie-down" rings available but....there were several large, heavy cement blocks under an old Convair 540.  We drug them to the Little Donkey, which was no small feat.  Those things are heavy.

In addition to wheel chocks, we "anchored" the Little Donkey with the big heavy cement blocks.  Here, Augustine poses next to Ti Burik.

Now, it was time to make the "run" back to the Village.  It was pitch black dark and the storm was rapidly approaching.

Then I saw them, small U.N. Convoy on a nightly patrol.  I quickly tucked in with them and began to trek back to the village.

Here's a YouTube clip of the ride home - FOLLOWING A UN CONVOY IN HAITI

I made it back to the village safe and sound last night. BTW, the storm did diminish somewhat and did not produce any high winds.  However, it was much better to be safe than sorry.  I also slept better knowing that we did what we could to protect Ti Burik.

So, the "Adventure" continues today.  Will be all over the place in meetings and ministry.  Our Lord is so good!  Again, I'm extremely THANKFUL to have you on-board with your precious prayer, love and support!!

LIVE!  FROM THE HAITI DESK

It was time to fly to Haiti.  Had a lot of much needed supplies for Barb and the babies.  Hermine had delayed the departure for nearly a week.

Now, there was only 1 big storm cell, right off the coast of Florida and...it was slowly moving out of the way.

Arrived at the airport at 4:45 AM.

The Little Donkey was loaded and fueled.  The flight plan was filed and had a final word of prayer asking our Lord to continue to move that big cell out of the way.

Fired up the engines and pushed the throttles forward.  Climbed to 15,000' and saw the answer to my prayer.  That big cell slowly drifted right out of my way.

Can't begin to tell you how beautiful are the Caribbean sunrises.  Here, you can see a couple of the storms just to the east of my route to Haiti.

The 5+ hour flight was smooth, but bucked some pretty strong headwinds the whole way.  So glad for the 14 fuel tank configuration!!

Again, our Lord made a way!  Upon arrival, began the unload.  The Little Donkey was packed to the rim!

BTW, the newly "Topped" front engine did great.  The 6 new cylinders performed very well.

Even my Haitian helpers at the airport are constantly amazed at what a big load the Little Donkey can carry!  So am I!!

You know, I never, ever take it for granted to fly a 46 year old airplane, right through the Bermuda Triangle with multiple storms to dance around.  Our Lord is good!  I've been doing this for 38 years and love it!!!

So, here I am,  at the "Haiti Desk" in our base camp.  Barb was certainly pleased for the replenishment of baby formula and food and supplies.  What a joy to be here!!

Have a full schedule this week.  Will be all over the place. Haiti is getting ready for elections and the tensions are high.

So, as I ask for every single day and mean with all of my heart, THANK YOU for your precious prayer, love and support!!

SAINT TERESA

No matter what side of the religious fence one is sitting on, Mother Teresa, now Saint Teresa, was a remarkable person.  This loving, caring lady of God changed and impacted more lives than  we can imagine.

I am pleased that the Catholic Church and truly, the rest of the world has honored her memory and work.  May her sacrificial, giving life be an example to us all.  Here's more - POPE FRANCIS DECLARES MOTHER TERESA A "SAINT"

It looks like Hermine, the storm wouldn't go away, has finally departed to the east and continuing to head that way.  Many folks are breathing a sigh of relief!  Here's the latest - HERMINE HEADING OUT TO SEA

What are you doing on this Labor Day?  We're thankful for somewhat clear skies here in Florida.

I'll be heading to the airport to make sure that Little Donkey will be ready to gallop when the time comes.  So glad to get that front engine all "topped off" (replaced all 6 cylinders with factory new ones).  Our Lord has given us a wonderful tool, with which to serve Him and bring help to others in need.

I love getting up early and having a cup of coffee.  The skies are crystal clear and stars are very bright.  A lovely time to get up and reflect on the goodness of our Lord.  May you blessed today and THANK YOU for your precious prayer, love and support!!

WHAT TO SAY??

I have a routine.  Get up in the morning.  Thank God for giving me another day.  Put the coffee on and write a blog.

Often, have absolutely no idea what I'm going to write about...and I'm sure that shows in this "Rambling" blog.

It seems, I've "journaled" for most of my life.  Have documented quite a few of our missions but....

Just before midnight on January 12, 2010, I sat down and penned a blog about the devastating and tragic Haiti earthquake.

It was a breathless, quick one telling that in just a few hours, I'd take off for Haiti.  We were actually, the first private plane to land there on January 13th (my birthday).  It's a day I'll never forget.

Now, I'm not going to say anything more about those tragic moments. What I will say is that this "Rambling Blog" has gone on every single day, uninterrupted, since  since January 12, 2010.

Often, nothing special is going on and I just tell what's going through my mind and heart.  The remarkable thing is a number of you read this crazy, rambling blog every single day.

I'm blessed and honored that you'd join me on this journey through life and above all, I'm THANKFUL for your prayers!

Together, we've been around the world many times in this 6.5 year journey.

We've been to Haiti regularly and reached to the Philippines, India, Nepal, Ecuador, Japan, Dominican Republic, Dominica, Bahamas and many other countries that have suffered tragedy.

With your help and love, we've been able to bring clean water and hope and the Good News of Jesus to many.  BTW, we've been able to place 1000+ Air Mobile Rescuers in 48 countries!!

So, on this beautiful Sunday, I pen another rambling blog and share my heart with you and THANK YOU for your faithful prayer, love and support!!  Time to get on with this day and see where our Lord leads.

CLEAR SKIES OVER FLORIDA - HERMINE CHURNS ON

It's been a while since we've seen "Clear Skies" here in Florida.  Hermine has come
and gone (from Florida) breaking a "long standing" record of NO HURRICANES FOR 11 YEARS.

This Storm has been on "Radar" for a long time and....it's not over!  Hermine, after lashing Georgia and the Carolina's is moving off shore.

It may be "recharging" for another punch.  Time will tell.  Here's the latest - TROPICAL STORM HERMINE MOVING OFF THE EAST COAST; DANGEROUS TIDAL SURGE FOR VIRGINIA TIDEWATER

Cindy and I felt it important to stay "close" to home in the event of severe damage and the need to deploy Air Mobile Rescuers.  We're thankful that the crisis has passed....for now.

Besides, it's been rather nice "hanging around" home and watching the weather channel.

Also, today is the real beginning of College Football season. Peter & Christian will be joining me this afternoon at our favorite hangout, "Dogs-R-Us".

This has been a tradition with the Hurston Boys for years and we begin another season today.

There's going to be a real "Shootout" at Lambeau Field between LSU (our team!) the Wisconsin (Doug's Team).  We have a friendly wager on how this game will turn out.

So, on this sunny Saturday morning, it's time to head out and do some clean-up chores (a lot of debris has been blown around) and then to "Dogs" for the game.

As always, THANK YOU for your invaluable and truly appreciated prayer, love and support!!

HURRICANE HERMINE SLAMS FLORIDA / TROPICAL STORM HERMINE HEADING UP THE EAST COAST

After 11 years, it happened.  Florida was struck by a Hurricane.  Millions are without electricity, waves are crashing, winds are howling and Hermine moves through north Florida and on to the U.S. East Coast.

We're on the southside of Hermine and getting blown around, but things are not too bad, though the threat of tornadoes is real and present.

Again, we've been watching this same storm for nearly 2 weeks and folks have had plenty of time to prepare and plan their strategy.

At this point, I don't think anyone has lost their life.  Praise God!!  Here's the latest - HURRICANE FORCE WINDS IMPACT FLORIDA COAST

Looks like Hermine is far from over and will be around well into next week.  We'll continue to keep a close eye on this "long- lived" storm.

Yesterday, Cindy and I had the distinct privilege to speak to the Missions Prayer Committee for First Baptist of Merritt Island.  We love these precious Saints and so appreciate their love and prayer!!

So, today, will just be staying close to home base and monitoring the Weather Channel.  I must say, it will be nice when all this messy weather clears out of here.

So, as I say every day, and mean with all of my heart....THANK YOU for your invaluable prayer, love and support!!

HERMINE WILL SLAM INTO FLORIDA & THEN "DRAG" UP THE EAST COAST...GET READY

We've been TRACKING this storm (Tropical Storm Hermine) since August 21st and it's just growing in strength.  This Storm is NOT going away!!

By this evening, Hermine will likely gain Hurricane status and should actually make landfall in the Panhandle of Florida.  It''ll continue to strengthen and pass over Florida, then "drag" up the U.S. East Coast.  This storm can do a lot of damage, specifically Flooding and the threat of Tornadoes is very real!

I must say, the "Forecasters" have "nailed" this storm.  Their projections have been extremely accurate and have given us all a lot of time to PREPARE!!

Here in East Central Florida, we've been getting A LOT of rain and have experienced some outer bands of wind from Tropical Storm Hermine.

Things should heat up tonight and IF the forecasters are right, the storm should pass just to the north us. Again, we're PRAYING for all in the path of this storm.

Speaking of "Storms".  Donald Trump made a "Whirlwind" trip to Mexico, met with the President of Mexico and made it back in time last night to give his much anticipated speech on Immigration.  What a day!!

Cindy and I listened to Trump's Speech and he certainly gave clear and specific details as to what he would do as President.  It is "refreshing" to hear points brought out that many politicians have avoided.  May God have His way in this crucial upcoming election!!

This morning, Cindy and I will be speaking at First Baptist Merritt Island to the "Missions Prayer Committee".  We love speaking to these Saints who know how to PRAY!!

It's time to head out into this rainy and blustery morning.  As always, THANK YOU for your precious and truly appreciated prayer, love and support!!

"WAITING OUT" A STORM

Cindy and I have done our own "Preparation" for this storm and now, it's just a matter of watching and waiting.

Certainly am thankful for nice satellite images that track this storm's every movement and again, most grateful to have had the time to get ready....not always given that luxury!!

Tropical Depression 9 is soon to be upgraded to Tropical Storm Hermine.  Even though the winds are not very high, there are major flooding and tornado threats.

That's why we're keeping a close eye on this storm.  Here's more - HURRICANE WATCH & TROPICAL STORM WARNING ISSUED - TD 9 TAKES AIM ON FLORIDA'S GULF COAST

One thing is for sure, we're certainly not taking the Little Donkey up in this weather.

There is a lot of instability in the region and it's best to just "lay low" for a while!

So, I'll pour another cup of coffee and keep watching the weather channel and pray for the best.

As always, THANK YOU for your invaluable prayer, love and support!!

FLORIDA
BEWARE:  FLOODING!!

As Tropical Depression 9 slowly churns in the Gulf, it is picking up a lot of water and brings the threat of major flooding to the West Coast and Central Florida.

We've seen what an "UN-NAMED" slow moving storm can do....Louisiana!!

Cindy and I are bracing ourselves and making preparations in the event flooding occurs.

BTW, the West Coast of Florida is already saturated, making flooding much more likely.

NOW is the time to think about clean water / fuel / food, ETC.   and above all...A PLAN!!

One major problem with Florida is the lack of North-South roads out of the state in the event Evacuation is necessary.

It should be noted that IF a bridge is knocked out due to flooding....Evacuation routes are then blocked.  These are the things to plan look at and have alternate routing identified.

We've been building Air Mobile Rescuers in anticipation of just such an Emergency.  We PRAY that we don't need them and that this storm passes quickly and even diminishes.

I am reminded how Jesus calmed the storm and He can certainly do that again.  He tells us to ASK & we shall receive.  So, let's PRAY for all that are in the path of these storms.

We should ALWAYS have PRAYER in our Emergency Plan!!

On this rainy, blustery Florida day, we say THANK YOU for your faithful and appreciated prayer, love and support!!

PLANNING AROUND A "SLOW WALKING" STORM

The GOOD thing about a hurricane is that you usually have PLENTY of time to prepare.  However, sometimes the storm can throw you a curve by a last minute or "Rapid Intensification".

As a matter of fact, most major and destructive storms have shown a "RAPID INTENSIFICATION" just before landfall.  Thus....keep a close eye on the storms (even the small ones!).  Here's more on that - RAPID INTENSIFICATION (R.I.) VIA WIKI-PEDIA

That's exactly what we're doing with what is now TD 9 (formally Invest 99L).  It kind of has me locked down and holding my position.

Notice the projected track of TD-9.

Once in the Gulf, it's projected to head north and then turn east, right back over the center of Florida.

Flooding could be a major issue with this "Slow Walker"!  Here's the latest on TD 9 - TROPICAL DEPRESSION 9 FORMS NEAR THE FLORIDA KEYS - WILL SOAK THE GULF COAST THIS WEEK

So, we sit and wait and watch and be prepared to move when we need to move.  We're THANKFUL for your precious prayer, love and support!!

SUNDAY MORNING IN AMERICA

Cindy and I never take for granted our freedom to simply go to church and worship God.

We're also THANKFUL for the FREEDOM to go and share the Good News and the love of God with others, particularly those who are suffering.

May we NEVER fail to  appreciate this glorious privilege!!

We're THANKFUL for our country that still allows Religious Freedom and for the Hospital where we've been Chaplains for over 18 years that has given us an OPEN DOOR to go and share our faith FREELY!

So, this beautiful Sunday morning, though it's getting a bit windy and rainy, we're preparing to go and rejoice in the Lord and share the Good News of Jesus!!

We do have a meandering, tropical weather system passing to the south of us (here in Florida) and getting closer to very warm waters in the Gulf of Mexico.

Here's the latest - INVEST 99L COULD STILL DEVELOP INTO A TROPICAL STORM EARLY THIS WEEK  This system just may develop into a significant storm.  We PRAY that it doesn't!

Time to get ready for church.  As always, THANK YOU for your greatly appreciated prayer, love and support!!

LOOKS LIKE FLORIDA IS DODGING THE BULLET...AGAIN

It appears as if the 10 year drought from Hurricanes (in Florida) will continue and...that's a good thing.

The "messy" weather from Invest 99L is just meandering toward the Gulf of Mexico and may become better organized once in that "warm bathtub".  Here's the latest - INVEST 99L MAY STILL DEVELOP IN THE GULF OF MEXICO NEXT WEEK

One thing is for sure, LOUISIANA DOES NOT NEED ANY MORE RAIN!!  We pray for Invest 99L to just fizzle out!!

Now, regarding 'POLITICS', I'm not going to say anything this morning, except.....  It's not my imagination to say that the "Media" has clear agendas and Cindy and I are just PRAYING for our Lord to have HIS WAY!!

Our heart cry is for the TRUTH be known and that the Citizens of America have quality information that will help them to make good choices in the upcoming election!  THE TRUTH SHALL SET US FREE!!

So, today, I sit here and look at the big RED GLOB that sits between us here in Florida and Haiti and pray that it just fizzles out goes away.

TO BE A STORM OR NOT TO BE A STORM....TIME WILL TELL

Been tracking Invest 99L as it grazed the Dominican Republic and Haiti.  Lots of rain, but also dry air and upper level wind shear is preventing this "mess of weather" to become organized, however....

It's now moving into moist air with less wind shear.  Will it form and organize and bring destruction and death?

I'm glad not to be flying through this stuff. We'll see what happens  today.  I'm very thankful for satellites and good weather forecasters.

Still, some of the prognosticators are projecting this WX system to hit south Florida and likely end up in the gulf.  Will the "Florida Hurricane Drought" continue??  We're standing by to see what happens.

So, what are Cindy and I going to do today?  We may swim a bit and make sure we have emergency supplies, an Air Mobile Rescuer handy and a place to go if we have to evacuate and a strategy to help others if the storm hits here.

God bless and THANK YOU for your prayer, love and support!!

PLAN NOW!  POTENTIAL THREAT FOR SOUTHEAST U.S.

The waters are warm (conducive to growth)  and Invest 99L just may become Tropical Storm Hermine today.

The Bahamas and Florida appear to be right on the route of this growing storm.  It's good that we have adequate time to prepare (a luxury that we don't always have!).

This storm is currently "lashing" the Dominican Republic and Haiti and growing intensity.  We're following this storm VERY CLOSELY!

The Little Donkey (Ti Burik) is PACKED with baby formula, critical supplies and topped off with used tennis balls to make the load nice and tight.  We're READY!!

Meanwhile, Italian Rescuers are searching desperately for survivors in the deadly quake that has killed 247+ and the death toll is rising.

PLEASE PRAY for those that are still trapped beneath the rubble and for the Rescuers who are desperately trying to reach them!

Today, we'll continue to PREPARE for the storms and seek to do what our Lord wants us to do today!  As always, THANK YOU for your precious prayer, love and support!!

AFTER 10 YEARS....IS THERE A HURRICANE HEADED TO FLORIDA??

We're keeping a close eye on Invest 99L, a growing storm with many tracks pointing to Florida.  10 years is a long time since the last hurricane hit Florida.

Many new Florida residents have never gone through a Hurricane.  This one just may end the "Hurricane drought".  Here's more on that brewing storm - A STORM HEADED TO FLORIDA

I'm thankful for good forecasting that gives us the opportunity to "batten down the hatches".

BTW, our hearts are broken for the thousands and thousands of residents in Louisiana who are having to put their lives back together following those epic, record breaking floods.  Our prayers are with you all!!

Just saw that Italy had a devastating earthquake that completely wiped out Amatrice, Italy.  This was a powerful, focused earthquake.   The death-toll is rising.  Here's more - "THE TOWN ISN'T HERE ANYMORE": TOWNS REDUCED TO RUBBLE, DEATH TOLL CLIMBING IN DEADLY ITALY QUAKE

And while typing this blog, another powerful quake struck Central Myanmar.  Too early to tell of damage or casualties.  Here's the latest on that powerful quake - POWERFUL QUAKE OF 6.8 MAGNITUDE STRIKES CENTRAL MYANMAR

We're THANKFUL to have the Little Donkey back in the air.  We're preparing for what lies ahead.  As I say everyday and mean with all of my heart, THANK YOU for your precious and invaluable prayer, love and support!!

ALL CYLINDERS...REPORTING & BARB...ON THE MOVE

Paul spent the weekend digging and searching until he found the "little nick" in the wire for the probes on the cylinders that were "not reporting".

He called and said, "OK, let's take the Little Donkey up to see if they're "all there".  We did and they were.  Good to have Ti Burik back!

Just keeping up with Barb (AKA:  Rambo in the Blue Dress) can take one's breath away.  This lady is always "on the move".

Got that phone call yesterday...."Hey, I'm catching an evening flight & need to get to the airport".  Of course, I got her there...on time.  It's always a blessing to have the "Bar-ba-ra" with us.  She's off on another adventure.

BTW, notice that everything that Barbara has is blue....the suitcase, the back-pack, the purse and of course, the famous dress!

Now, we've got to prioritize our next load to Haiti.  Items have really backed up since we had to "top" that front engine and complete the Annual Inspection.

Time to get to work and get ready for the "next mission".  As always, THANK YOU for your invaluable prayer, love and support!!

ANOTHER "TEST FLIGHT"

During our initial test flight, Paul and I discovered that 2 cylinders were not "reporting" their data.  In other words, 2 probes were not functioning properly.  After extensive searching Paul found the "breaks" in the circuit.

Later today, we'll be taking the Little Donkey up again to make sure "ALL" the cylinders are telling us what is going on inside of them.  Before striking out over hundreds of miles of open ocean, this is..."a good thing to know".

We're blessed to still have "The Bar-ba-ra", aka..."Rambo in the Blue Dress" with us.  She's been going from family to family visiting the kids whom she has rescued and the families that love her so much!

Yesterday, she was with the Prussel family.  After church and dinner, they headed to a "shooting range".  Apart from Walmart, this is one of Barb's favorite places!!

Barb is one of the toughest, most determined missionaries we've ever known when it comes to rescuing children (2000+!!) from very dangerous situations!  We sure do love our Bar-ba-ra!!

Cindy and I were joined by our dear and faithful friends, Alfred and Lisa Menendez.  They have helped us with our Hospital Chaplaincy for the last 6 years.

We now have OPEN DOORS into 4 separate units at the Hospital.  This is such a blessing to be able to share the Good News with Adolescents, Acute Care, Adults and Addicts.  PRAISE GOD!!

I'm pleased to say that yesterday, a number of names were written down in the Lamb's Book of Life!!

So, where does the road lead today?  Our Lord knows.  I'm holding tightly to his hand!!

As I say every single day and mean with all of my heart, THANK YOU for your precious prayer, love and support!!

A wonderful thing about living in Central Florida is Cocoa Beach...a National Treasure!

We spent the day celebrating Rhythm Hurston's 10th Birthday and just had a blast.

Here's a short clip of our celebration party.  OK, bear with this old grandfather carrying on about a grand kid.  Just goes with the territory!  BEACH VID OF RHYTHM'S PARTY

This morning, Cindy and I are up early preparing our messages for the Chaplain Services at the Hospital in Orlando.  Such a joy to share the GOOD NEWS of JESUS!

DRIVING "MISS BARBARA"

Anytime our beloved Barb (AKA:  "Rambo in the Blue Dress") is in town, it's a whirlwind mission.

She's usually in a local "Dollar Store" or in Walmart.  She's buying things to fill up her suitcases and bless the kids in Haiti!

Folks who know and love Barb seem to know when she's in the U.S. and her phone rings constantly.  I just patiently drive her from location to location, usually ending up at Walmart.

I chuckle as I hear the phone conversation...."Yeah, I'll be getting a perm in the Titusville Walmart, come and see me there"...or something like that.

This lady has arranged more than 2000 Adoptions and saved more lives than we can count. She uses every ounce of strength that she has to overcome seemingly insurmountable obstacles.  I've seen it first-hand again and again.  It's a blessing to "Drive Miss Barbara"!!

When I look at our precious Ariana, so full of life and love I can't help but remember when Barb told Joe Prussel and I about this precious little one.  She said, in her blunt way..."if someone doesn't do something about her...she'll die!".

It was like a fiery, piercing arrow right in mine and Joe's heart.  Well, with Barb's ingenuity and indomitable persistence and a lot of generous folks, we now have the gift of, Ariana!

This story has been played out literally thousands of times.  God bless Barb!!

One never knows how long Barb will stay.  She, like, on a military deployment, gets a full load of critical stuff and then announces...."I'm catching the afternoon flight...can you give me a ride to the airport?".

Today, she's still with us and we're just happy to have her...for as long as we can have her.  She'll be joining our family at the beach where we'll be celebrating another birthday of one our grand-kids, Rhythm, who is 10.  Barb is truly a "member of our family".

Time to have that delicious 2nd cup of coffee and get on with this beautiful day.  As always, THANK YOU for your precious and truly appreciated prayer, love and support!!

THE "FLYING DONKEY"

After an extensive Annual Inspection and a complete "Top Overhaul" on the front engine, Paul and I successfully ran up and then flew the Little Donkey.

It was good to pull the little airplane out of the hangar.  It was time to get it into the air.

After conducting the ground run-up , we inspected the engine for oil leaks and any other abnormalities.

Then came the moment that I've been waiting for....Paul's Clearance to FLY!
The front engine was smooth and strong.  We climbed to 7500' and set the power at 75% and let those new cylinders break in properly.  Paul carefully monitored all of the engine instruments.

As for me, I simply enjoyed flying the Little Donkey again.  It's been a while!

While Paul and I were inspecting and flying the Little Donkey, Cindy and Barb went to Barb's FAVORITE store....WALMART!

Time to get on with this day, that our Lord has made, and see what adventure lies ahead.

As always, THANK YOU for your truly appreciated prayer, love and support!!

A CALL FROM...."THE LADY IN THE BLUE DRESS"

Cindy and I were in a meeting when the cell phone rang.  It was Barb (AKA:  Rambo in the Blue Dress).  She had just landed in Miami from Haiti and was heading our way.  That's the way Barb usually shows up (giving us about an hour advance).

Her mission:  to pick up her ailing (now repaired) computer and some baby formula (she's running low) and....spend a few days with us just "relaxin".  It's always a joy to have Barb with us.

After a delicious dinner at a local Chinese Buffet, we took Barb on a nice "nature trail" ride on a little green golf cart.  Along the way, we spotted a turtle sneaking up on a fawn.

What a nice break from the heat and smoke and dust and violence in Haiti.

Well, it looks like today is definitely the day that we'll fire up the engines on the Little Donkey and begin our test / break-in flights.

Paul, our great mechanic, finally rounded up the last of those "pesky gremlins" and soon, we'll have the Little Donkey back in the air.

Time to hit the road and fire up those engines.  As always, THANK YOU for your invaluable prayer, love and support!!

FLOODS / WILDFIRES / & ERRATIC POLLS

We're certainly praying for the hundreds of thousands Louisiana residents that are facing catastrophic flooding and...it's not over!!

And now, 82,000 Californians are being emergency evacuated due to raging wild fires.  Life can certainly come at you quickly and dramatically!  Take a look at this "MONSTER"!! - 'IMMINENT THREAT' TO PUBLIC SAFETY AS CALIFORNIA WILDFIRE EXPLODES IN SIZE - 82,000 EVACUATED!!

In the midst of all of these cataclysmic events, we see the U.S. Presidential Polls "wildly swinging".  Seems like just yesterday, Hillary Clinton was leading Trump by 14-15 points and now....there's a 1 point difference.  Hmmm, what is one to believe???

Cindy and I are just holding tightly onto Jesus' Hand and living a day at a time and not getting too emotionally tied to polls.

We simply want to be where our Lord wants us to be when He wants us there.

Paul is still running out a few "Gremlins" on the Little Donkey.  Hope to test fly soon!

Folks must work and pray together to get back on their feet.  The clean-up will be massive.

In the meantime, we're doing all we can to get ready for the "next mission".  We're still running out a few "squawks" (a pesky Oxygen Leak) on the Little Donkey and may be firing up that newly "topped" front engine today.

I FELT HELPLESS....UNTIL...

As the images of unprecedented flooding in Louisiana (where I grew up) played across the screen, a feeling of helplessness overwhelmed me.  What can we do to help??

I have swum and fished in those same rivers and played along the little beaches.  The rapid and relentless rise of flood waters to record shattering levels just broke my heart.  Then it hit me....reach out to some folks who know what's happening on the "front lines".

The problem:  AT&T is down.  How could I get through?  A few "Landlines" were still operational.  I called my good friend, Ben Seal of Southern Helicopters.  I knew that Ben would be flying and doing all he could to rescue folks.

In the meantime, between our home Church service and conducting 4 separate services at the hospital, I had arranged for 5 Air Mobile Rescuers to be ready to go to Louisiana on a moments notice.

When I first got through on that "landline", Ben was flying a relief mission.  As soon as he landed, he called.  My simple question:  "Ben, what is the drinking water situation?  Can the Air Mobile Rescuer be of help?"

Ben's simple answer:  "Drinking water does not appear to be a problem at this time."  I asked him to call me IF it became a problem and we'd be right there.

In addition to reaching out to Ben, I spoke multiple times to my dear friend, Dan.  Dan was gathering as much info as he could to determine if Air Mobile Rescuers could be of use.  Dan's assessment was the same as Ben's.  Praise God for good information.

At this hour, we're on STAND-BY and monitoring the unfolding situation very closely.

We could launch in a moment with Rescuers in hand.  For now, we PRAY & WAIT.  Over 20,000 have been rescued and the crisis is still ongoing!  It's still raining!!  Here's the latest - DEATH TOLL RISING / 20,000 RESCUED IN HISTORIC LOUISIANA FLOODING

Of course, PRAYER is always needed and is powerful and is the thing that each and every one of us can do.  I urge you to take a moment and PRAY for those who have lost so much and still very much in HARMS WAY!!

BTW, there are a lot of snakes and gators in the flood waters!!

This morning, I'm headed to the airport.  Paul and I will be running up the engines on the Little Donkey and hopefully beginning our test / break-in flights.

We need the Little Donkey to be ready for....THE NEXT MISSION!!

As always, THANK YOU for your precious and truly appreciated prayer, love and support!!

PLEASE PRAY FOR LOUISIANA!!

Have been in touch with my sister, Gail, who lives in Greenwell Springs (a suburb) of Baton Rouge.  Her neighborhood is completely blocked in by flood waters.  Thousands have been rescued.

Have also been in constant touch with my friend of many years, Dan Andrews, who lives in Baton Rouge.  The situation in Louisiana is on-going and waters are still rising.

Dan sent me this dramatic video of a rescue of a woman and her dog as her car sank.  It's GRIPPING!

PLEASE PRAY for those in Louisiana and Mississippi.  Many are in life threatening situations.  Many have lost everything.

We'll continue to monitor the situation and most important, PRAY about what we can do to help.

Again, rain is still falling and many records have been shattered!  Here's more on what is going on - LATEST NEWS ON HISTORIC / CATASTROPHIC FLOODING IN LOUISIANA

I share this story with you because the media is barely covering this dramatic and tragic story.

We're heading out to church this morning and will be urging our home church to pray.   Then, it'll be off to the hospital.  PLEASE remember to PRAY and ask our Lord what He would have you to do to help those in such urgent and immediate need!

RECORD RAINS SWAMP LOUISIANA

I'm watching my "Hometown", Baton Rouge, being ravaged by relentless rains and major flooding.  Records are being shattered as I type.

Evacuations are taking place, folks have already lost their lives and the rain is yet to stop.  We PRAY for those in the path of the floods!!

Been in touch with some of my family in the affected areas.  They're OK for now, but are mainly "trapped" in their neighborhoods due to flooded roads everywhere.  It's a good time to be sure to be stocked up.

Folks in Louisiana knew rains were coming, but many didn't know that THIS MUCH RAIN would be coming. And....IT'S STILL RAINING!!

Things can come at you quickly!!  Think about it; in just a matter of hours so many records are being shattered & folks are being wiped out!

Again, I urge you to pray for those in the paths of these terrible floods!  We're following this developing story very closely.

Today, I have a great friend, Randy West, coming by.  Randy and I go way back and he's joined me on a number of Air Mobile Missions.  Lately, he's really gotten into drones and we'll be doing some "Aerial Photography" today.  Looking forward to that, should be fun.

So, as I say every single day and mean with all of my heart, THANK YOU for your invaluable prayer, love and support!!

IN BETWEEN....

I met with Paul, our mechanic, yesterday and looks like we'll crank up the engines on the Little Donkey on Monday and hopefully begin our test / break-in flights.  He's running out a few other minor squawks.  We're getting close!!

It's been a joy being home (In Between Missions).  Of course, the "Mission field" is right here and beyond.

Just read that Louisiana is in a "State of Emergency" due to very heavy rainfall.  And from the Gulf of Mexico to the Northeast, significant rainfall is expected with the potential of major flooding.

We're keeping a close eye on this unfolding situation.  Here's more - "STATE OF EMERGENCY" NEAR NEW ORLEANS AS GULF COAST FLOODING HITS MISSISSIPPI , LOUISIANA & BEYOND

Regarding the turbulent and extraordinary U.S. Election, Cindy and I are just praying for our Lord's will to be done.

I did come across this interesting story about "Trump's Spiritual Adviser" and thought I'd share it with you.  It  gives another view of this man - TRUMP'S SPIRITUAL ADVISOR SAYS THE CANDIDATE "LOVES GOD" & IS "HUNGRY FOR GOD IN HIS HEART"

Well, we certainly hope (and PRAY) so.  The Office of the President is one of the most serious positions on the planet and we truly want a person in there who loves God and is seeking God's Direction!!

Time to head out into this beautiful day and see where our Lord leads.  As always, THANK YOU for your precious prayer, love and support!!

IN THE SWIRL OF POLITICAL STATEMENTS & ACCUSATIONS....LIES THE TRUTH

Just watching the Political Drama unfolding here in America, one can get quite confused regarding....finding the truth and what's really going on.

I DO NOT claim to have a "Franchise on Truth", but....I know Who does!!

Therefore, I find myself PRAYING for wisdom and guidance as never before.  I am reminded of the Scripture...."You shall know the truth and truth shall set you free"!

BTW, every single country in the world faces this same problem.  If you find yourself a bit perplexed by all of the political wrangling and smoke screens, I urge you to join me in prayer and ask our Lord (Who knows what the real scoop is) to have His Way!  And that's what sets us free!

AN L-5 COMING ALIVE & ARI'S FIRST DAY....AS A 5TH GRADER

Love "hanging around" an airport.  Been doing it since I was  4!  One can meet some very interesting people and see some wonderful things.

My neighbor, Marvin, has been painstakingly putting a WWII aircraft, an L-5 Recon, back together from the ground up.  He started out with a "pile of new wood" and a broken down frame with a lot of rotten wood and a set of plans.

It's been over 5 years and yesterday, he and Paul put the prop on the beautiful "old bird".  What a joy watching the resurrection of this classic.  This particular L-5 served in Burma in 1944-1945.

Marvin, who rarely ever poses for pictures, finally agreed for me to take this shot of him with his "nearly complete" L-5.

BTW, this is what Marvin's L-5 will soon look like.  He has done an amazing job and it's been fun watching this project from the "ground up"!  Bravo Marvin!!

After helping Marvin hang the prop, Paul, our great mechanic, returned to putting the final touches on the front engine of the Little Donkey.  We hope to be doing ground run-ups and engine break-in flights later this week.

After running to a dozen places yesterday, I drove over to Longwood, FL and had dinner with my best friend of all time, Joe Polozola.

It was no accident that Joe and I met in the 10th Grade in Geometry Class at Baton Rouge High.  Surely, our Lord arranged our paths to cross.

Joe introduced me to Jesus 45 years ago.  I was a "tough" case, but Joe, who is very "hard-headed & determined" didn't stop until I surrendered to Jesus (best decision I've ever made!).  THANK YOU, JOE!!

Today, our Ariana is beginning her first day of school as a 5th Grader.  Wow, she's growing into such a lovely young lady.  Cindy and I are so blessed to have Ari as our daughter!!

Just about to have that 2nd cup of coffee.  Did you read the article yesterday on the "many benefits" of coffee?

Here it is again if you missed it. YOUR JAVA JOLT IS HEALTHIER THAN EVER!!

I've always known that coffee was good, but frankly, I'm amazed at just how good coffee is for you.  Coffee is a GIFT FROM GOD!  Enjoy that cup today!!

A CUP OF JAVA & THE WORD OF GOD

Happened across this article on the benefits of coffee and thought I'd share it with you.  Apparently, it's good to drink coffee beyond breakfast.

I KNEW IT!!  Just take a look at how many things coffee helps!  It's truly amazing.  So, have another cup on me and you'll live better!!

In addition to a good cup of coffee, I've been needing God's Word more than ever.  Have been taking advantage of the wonderful APP - "YouVersion".

Now, I assure you, I'm not being "paid" by YouVersion.  I just love the APP. Since my son Christian, told me about it and I downloaded it, have used it everyday and often throughout the night and in the early morning.

This is just an amazing tool to bring the Word of God to you in so many ways.  I love putting on my earbuds in the night and just letting the Bible flow through me.  During times of anxiety and discouragement, this is an ever present help.

If you'd like to download it, here's the link.  It's easy.  My favorite is, listening to the ESV (English Standard Version).  YouVersion Link

Just listening to the Word of God brings incredible peace and joy to my heart.  I so encourage you to enjoy God's Word.

Now, it's time to head out into this day and see where He leads.  May His will be done in my life today!

THANK YOU, as always, for your precious prayer, love and support!!

POLLS & HEADLINES.....DON'T BELIEVE EM!

Even though the U.S. Presidential Election is still months away, POLLS can really do a number on your emotions.  BEWARE THE POLLS!!

The thing about Polls & Headlines is that they change...almost hourly.  Therefore, just hold steady and read between the lines and PRAY.

Certain News sources will emphasize one poll and leave another one behind.  There is tremendous manipulation with this data. Even then, the ultimate Poll will be on Election day.

Cindy and I are PRAYING for God's Will to be done.  He has given us a free will and we can still make very bad decisions all on our own.  We just PRAY that on Election Day, America gets the best Candidate to lead this country!

Looks like we'll get that front engine up and running this week.  It'll be good to get the Little Donkey back in the air!  Looking forward to that.

We're so grateful for the ministry that our Lord has given us at the Hospital in Orlando.

Our Air Mobile team did 3 services yesterday afternoon and souls were saved in each one.  Praise God for "Fields white unto harvest"!

So, on this beautiful Monday morning, it's time to head out and see what our Lord has in store for us.  As always, THANK YOU for your invaluable and truly appreciated prayer, love and support!!

EASY GOING

We found a lovely nature trail here in Florida and just meandered down it in an old golf cart.  What a nice way to spend a Saturday.

There was an inviting pool close by and had access to it, so....we took a dip or two.  Nothing special today, just kind of hanging around and relaxing.

Most important, spent a minimum amount of time on the "Computer".  Sometimes, things can pretty cluttered and emotional, particularly when it comes to Politics in the U.S.

However, when I sat down with a delicious afternoon cup of coffee, Cindy forwarded this story to me.  As I read it, had to post it on my Facebook page and had an "explosion" of responses.

Cindy and I have personally seen many of these disturbing "stories" up close and personal.  I'm just glad that the truth is coming out and those parties be held responsible.

OK, enough said.  If you read the story all the way to the end, you'll see why Haitians are Protesting & Angry!

Now, we'll shift gears and get ready for Church and then Chapel Service at the Hospital in Orlando.  God's Grace is Sufficient!!

MY PASTOR'S QUESTION

Let me ask you a question.  Have you ever fallen asleep while praying?  I certainly have, and suspect that you have also.  Have you suddenly awakened and felt guilty?  Yes, me too.

Yesterday evening, our Pastor, Gary, and his family came over for dinner.

He asked me that question.  We all have done that.  Then...he gave me a simple illustration.  Have you ever had a baby fall asleep in your arms?  What a lovely picture!

So, next time you fall asleep while praying, don't feel guilty.  Feel blessed by our Heavenly Father's great love for us!  Had to share that with you.

Do you know what we're going to do today?  Nothing special.  Just going to relax and enjoy the day.  We may even explore a nature trail on an old golf cart. We'll see how that works out.

As always, THANK YOU for your precious and truly appreciated prayer, love and support!!

WHAT WILL HAPPEN NEXT??

In this crazy "Political Season", the ride is getting wilder and wilder.  I must admit, never seen anything like this.

Polls are swinging and political intrigue is rising.  It's very difficult to predict just what's going to happen next.

At any rate, the thing to do is "remain calm" and PRAY for our country.  Let us STOPPRAY for our Lord's will to be done with America!

Yesterday morning, had a wonderful meeting with fellow aviators who want to encourage young people to consider Mission Aviation.

We'll be cooperating in a Mission Conference at Calvary Chapel, Merritt Island (October 1st).  We laid out the basic itinerary and will be offering a lot of free airplane rides with a good mix of Aviation stories about the wonder of Mission Aviation.  We're all looking forward to that!

From that meeting, headed to the hangar to get a good "engine report".  Looks like Paul has the Cylinders mounted and torqued down, as well as the intake and exhaust.  Next will be the engine baffles and then....ground run ups.  Yea!!

One of the greatest things about being home is getting together with the grand kids (and their wonderful parents!) at a park for a picnic.  Am so blessed to have such an awesome family!!!

So, today, as I go about knocking down that ever present "To Do List", I'll be praying for God to have His way with America....and me!

The older I get, the more I realize just how much I need the Lord in my life every single day...and every hour of every day.

I pray that you're blessed today and as always, THANK YOU for your invaluable prayer, love and support!!

PASSING THE BATON

As time passes, one realizes that at some point, the "Baton" must be passed.  This is particularly true with pilots.  Simply put, there comes a time when a pilot can't fly anymore.

I HAVE NOT REACHED THAT POINT....thank God!  However, when local Chapters of "Pilots for Christ" and "Servant Air Ministries" contacted me and asked if I'd like to participate in a "Recruiting Day" for young missionary pilots, I quickly agreed.

This morning, a group of Mission Aviators will be meeting for breakfast to discuss this upcoming event.  We'll begin laying out the agenda for the day and who will be doing what.

BTW, this has been on my mind and heart for some time.  I'm particularly happy that Peter, our son, has expressed such an interest in aviation.

Brian, our friend and excellent CFI (Certified Flight Instructor) has been training Peter.

Peter is studying Aviation Management at F.I.T. (Florida Institute of Technology) and doing quite well.

At this upc0ming event, we'll have prospective aviation students from all over Central Florida.  We're all very excited about this OPEN DOOR to encourage young people to FLY FOR THE LORD!

So, it's time to head over for an early breakfast and planning meeting with a group of "seasoned" aviators and lay out a plan to encourage young people to FLY FOR JESUS!

As I say every day and mean with all of my heart, THANK YOU for your precious prayer, love and support.

ONE OF MY FAVORITE PROVERBS!

On this 3rd of August, I read Proverbs 3....one of my all time favorites!  Lean not to your own understanding, in all your ways, acknowledge Him and He will direct your paths!  Yes, Lord!!

As I've been sharing with you, in this "chaotic world" with so many voices and promises and accusations and threats, etc., etc., it's difficult to know "which way to go".

By reading His Word every day, our lives can be filled with His peace and His direction.  Now, I'm preaching to myself here because....often, I fail to do it myself and I certainly feel the consequences of that.

As I encourage you, I'm certainly encouraging myself to do the same.  Back to Proverbs 3 for a moment.  This particular Proverb has been such a blessing to me, in so many ways over the years.  Here's a link to it for you - PROVERBS 3 NKJV

In between our "International Missions", there is mundane work to be done....like doing our taxes (yes, we got an extension) and gathering supplies and getting the Little Donkey back in the air and overall, "streamlining" our lives.

So, as I launch into this day, I'll remember the Words....Trust in the Lord with all my heart and He shall direct my path!

Thank you, as always, for your invaluable prayer, love and support!!

IN A SWIRL OF "POLITICAL BATTLES" ....WE NEED HIS PEACE

I find it difficult to read the headlines.  TRUTH seems to be in short supply.  What are we to believe?

That is the reason Cindy and I endeavor to keep the Word of God, the Bible, in the front and center of our lives.  This helps us to "discern" what is really going on.

Now, I must admit that there are times that I'm short on the "Word" and long on the "News".  That's when things get "out of balance".

The truth is....we're busy.  Often up early and to bed late.  Sometimes, it's difficult to "squeeze" in time to read or study God's Word.

But you know, when I begin to get irritable and feel overwhelmed and just discouraged...I know, it's time to spend more time in the Word.  God's Word brings PEACE!

So...if you're "Suffering" from some of the same "Symptoms", may I encourage you to "crack open the Book" and have a look.  Even if you pick the "Proverb of the Day".

Today, being the 2nd, I read Proverbs 2 and WOW!  What a Word for the Day.

Now, Proverb 2 has 22 verses.  It will only take about 5 minutes to read (if you read it slowly), but what a difference it makes.

The Wisdom of God gives us understanding...and direction and peace and joy, etc. etc.  Here's the link....PROVERBS 2 ESV

Having girded my heart with His Word, I can now head out into this day.  So glad that I could share this with you today!!

I PRAY that you have a blessed day and....THANK YOU for your precious prayer, love and support!!

WHERE TO??

It is such a joy to minister in the Hospital in Orlando.  Yesterday, our Air Mobile team conducted 3 services and in each one, souls turned to Jesus for salvation.  Wow, what a blessing!

As we await our "next assignment", it's good to know that the fields are "white unto harvest" right here at home.  One doesn't need to travel to another country to see our Lord move in the lives of those who need Him (we ALL need the Lord!).

After our services at the Hospital, Cindy, Ari and I visited our good friends, Aaron and Lara.  Dr. Aaron has joined us on numerous missions to the Philippines and Nepal.  He's a true trooper and it's good having a great Doc travel with you!!

Just noticed a massive storm forming right over Haiti.  It will likely become a Tropical Storm and slam into Mexico.

The folks in Haiti are getting much needed rain, but we pray that they don't get too much rain!  Glad I'm not flying to Haiti today.

So, as we enter into this Monday, we PRAY for our Lord to direct our path and lead us exactly where He wants us to go.

We'll likely be taking the Little Donkey up for engine break-in flights later this week.  Time to head out into this day.

As I say every single day and mean with all of my heart, THANK YOU for your precious prayer, love and support!!
