AIR MOBILE CHRONICLES......CONTINUED!

April 1, 2012 - Sunday - 8:06am (U.S. Eastern Time) - Cocoa, FL - Air Mobile "Home Base" - Report prepared by Air Mobile Joe

REMEMBERING PALM SUNDAY - GOOD "VOLUNTEER" DAY - HIGH WINDS FLIP MILLION DOLLAR AIRCRAFT - EVENING AT DOGS

Today is Palm Sunday.  It is a beautiful day to remember and honor the "STEPS" our Lord made for our Salvation.  Let us Praise Him for loving us so!!

Yesterday was a wonderful day.  My son, Peter and I headed to the Air Mobile Headquarters and met an enthusiastic team from F.I.T. (Florida Institute of Technology).  We are so THANKFUL to folks who simply want to help.  Talk about perfect timing, Home Depot had mulch on sale for $.99 a bag!!  I just kept getting load after load of that cheap mulch and the team just kept weeding and spreading the mulch.  Peter did the riding lawn mower.

Theresa and Don (Theresa is the F.I.T. Chaplain) rallied a great group, including their kids and after several hard hours of work and many bags of mulch, the little Air Mobile Headquarters looked 100% better.

I am reminded of a very wise saying, "Our Lord is much more interested in our AVAIL - ABILITY than in our ABILITY even though we had several scientists and doctors in our group.  Many AVAILABLE & WILLING hands made small work of a large project.

After "sprucing" up our headquarters, I led the group over to the airport to show them our Little Donkey.  After telling them all about the remarkable capabilities of Ti Burik, we headed over to the Extreme Hurston Home.

We then went over the actual operation and history of the Air Mobile Rescuer.  I love telling the story of how this "Miracle" machine came into our hands.  It is also fun to challenge the young people to seek ways to "invent to save lives".

The day was far from over.  I had an appointment to meet another Volunteer, Jose.  Jose' is both a mechanic and pilot for Continental Airlines and wants to serve the Lord with his skills.  So, headed back to the airport.  Also planned to take the Little Donkey up for a test flight.  While awaiting Jose', the storm clouds were brewing.  I could see the "front" moving our way rapidly.  Knew that it would be "dicey".  As I saw the storm line rapidly approaching, Jose and his wife and daughter drove up.  The storm was just moving too rapidly our way, thus the decision to post-pone the test flight was good one.

While standing in the hangar doors, the wind began to howl.  Jose' went to close his windows when he ran up and said a large aircraft on amphibious floats just flipped over "right before his eyes".  Sure enough, a powerful gust of wind from that storm actually flipped an 8000 pound aircraft (Turbine Kodiak) doing significant damage.  It's amazing how quickly things can happen.  Thankfully, no one was injured.  We certainly made the correct decision to post-pone our test flight.

So, after a good visit with Jose' and his family, we agreed to continue the "interview" until today.  Will make that test flight today to determine if all the work on Ti Burik is good.  Oh, after the meeting with Jose', headed over to our favorite Sports Hangout, Dogs-R-Us, where I met Cindy, Juliet, Ariana and Peter.  Cindy had just gotten off of work.  So, we shared a great meal.

Cindy and girls headed home and Peter and I hung around to watch Kentucky outplay Louisville in the Final 4.  Quite a tribute to Kentucky Basketball (2 Kentucky teams in the big game).  Peter topped off his earlier dinner with a footlong hot dog (he's a growing boy!).  We really love this place.  By the way, one of our Board Members, Tommy, who is from Kentucky, suggested we head over to dogs and watch his team play.  And play they did, winning the opportunity to go to really big game.

Whoa, what a super rambling blog today.  It's time for the Hurston family to head out the door to church and then to Orlando to minister with the young people on this beautiful Palm Sunday.  Juliet and Cindy made about 100 little crosses out of palm leaves.  We love this ministry.  Time to go.  As always, THANK YOU for your precious love, prayer and support!!  God Bless!!

FLORIDA INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY (F.I.T.) SENDING VOLUNTEERS - HEAVY RAINS BRING DEATH TO HAITI

Up early this morning, getting ready for a team of Volunteers from F.I.T.  Recently, at an Aviation Open House hosted by FIT, I met the Chaplain for the school.  We discussed the possibility of this, and this morning, it's happening.  So glad for help!

We'll be cleaning up our ministry Headquarters by mowing the lawn and weeding.  It's funny, I went to Home Depot to buy some mulch and they're having this crazy sale - Mulch on sale for $.99 a bag.  Wow, perfect timing for our little sprucing up project.

Afterwards, we'll head over to the hangar and I'll demonstrate the Air Mobile Rescuer and show them Ti Burik.  I love challenging students to use their creative abilities to invent things that save lives!

By the way, hope to take our Little Donkey up for a series of test flights later this afternoon.  We're very close to completing all of the repairs and recent upgrades.  It's getting time to head back to Haiti.  Remember I mentioned the "Rainy Season" beginning in Haiti?  Well, yesterday, 6 Haitians lost their lives when heavy rains caused mudslides near Port-Au-Prince.  Along with these rains comes cholera.  We have our work cut out for us.

In recalling yesterday's blog, I think, "What would Jesus do?".  May this be something ever close to us and may we ask ourselves that question throughout every day.  I pray that you are blessed and that HE guides our feet today!

Time to bring my Cindy to work and then head out to meet the Volunteers.  As always, THANK YOU for your love, prayer and support!  God Bless!!

WE ARE HIS FEET

Was up early this morning and quietly telling our Lord how much I need Him.  The thought came back to me...."You are My feet".  It dawned on me again that we have the privilege to be "Co-Laborers" with the Lord.  I recalled a meeting yesterday, was working on technical and legal details regarding our water purifier.  After the business meeting was finished, the conversation "drifted" into a deep discussion of the Lord and how much we need Him.

Life can deal out some very serious blows and we can often find ourselves in storms, some of our making and others not.  No matter what the circumstances, Jesus is always near and ready to guide us and lead us.  Many years ago, I first saw this painting and fell in love with it.  Thought I'd share it with you.

There is a wonderful scripture in Isaiah 30:21 that says, "Whether you turn to the right or turn to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you saying 'This is the way, walk in it'".  Many times, as I race through this life, going from thing to thing and putting out fire after fire, I fail to "take a breath, still myself and listen".  Yet, our Lord knows our weaknesses and often bails us out by His great love and grace.

However, may I urge you, and believe me, I speak to myself in this admonition, "Take the time to listen for His voice".  He will surely guide us and lead us each step of the way.  I am further reminded of a wonderful saying, "What would Jesus do"?  It has been simplified to WWJD and was the craze a number of years ago.  Millions of little arm bands were made to remind us.  We should all ask that question many times throughout the day.  If we can establish what our Lord would do, we can then ask Him to give us the strength, wisdom and direction to do it.

You see, I believe that no matter what we have planned for this day....and I'm sure we're all busy, by simply asking this question, our day will go better.  We will likely find ourselves in a position to be used by our Lord and indeed, becoming His Hands, His Feet, His Mouth.  This is where we want to be.

So, as I dash out the door this morning to go buy chicken food, meet Paul and Joe on the airplane, have more meetings on the Rescuer and the list goes on and on, I know I'll meet folks that need the Lord and need His love and direction.  May I be used by Him today and may you also be an instrument in His hand.

Now, here's a way that we can all be used by Him - PRAYER!  Prayer is more powerful than we can ever imagine.  I remember a quote that I have said many times, "If we really knew what happened when we prayed.....we'd pray more"!  This is so true.  That is the reason I thank you each day for standing with us with your prayer, love and support!  THANKS AGAIN!  May you be blessed today and remember, "WWJD".

PREPARING FOR THE FUTURE & A SNAP SHOT OF THE DAY

In Haiti, the rainy season is about to start and there is a good possibility that Cholera will raise it's ugly head.  Just behind the rainy season is Hurricane Season.  Meanwhile, in the U.S. there are many voices being heard regarding the upcoming election.  I certainly pray that everyone reading this blog will vote.  There is so much at stake for our country.  Let us pray together that our Lord will keep His hand on America.

As I shared in yesterday's blog, the "Pieces" to make an unlimited number of Air Mobile Rescuers are coming together.  We still have a ways to go, but we are absolutely making good, steady progress on this noble venture!  It is always a good idea to have a source and means for clean water.  There are many things that we can live without, but clean water is not one of them.  In the case of Haiti, it is a "Life & Death" issue.

In writing this "daily" blog, I do not always have new and exciting news to share with you.  Sometimes, the day just goes on doing the mundane, daily things that we all do.  Such was the case yesterday.  I brought Ariana (our precious 6 year old) to the dentist.  Then we headed over to the hangar to meet Joe, an associate mechanic who works with Paul.  Joe was "tracking" down a broken wire on the Little Donkey and found it!  Yeah!!

From there it was doing things to get our Corporate taxes prepared and shopping at Winn Dixie and finding great deals.  Oh yes, spoke with the manufacturer of the critical rescuer components and secured some vital information.  Headed home, painted our mail box and put in a UV light into our fish pond.

One of the reasons I write this "wandering" daily blog is to give some measure of accountability to you, our prayer partners and supporters.  Also, according to my precious Cindy, it's probably a way to deal with some of the emotions from seeing so much destruction and suffering around the world.  Been doing this kind of work for a long time.  Sometimes, just writing about it is a good way to "Process" the feelings.

Took a break from writing and just went out and fed our chickens (and roosters).  Since I often refer to the "Crowing Roosters" and our Extreme Chicken house, thought I'd show you a shot of this blessing to our family. The fresh eggs are great and with the roosters, we don't need an alarm clock.

So, today, we've really wandered and meandered along.  In just a few minutes will head out the door to bring our Corp Taxes straight to the Department of Revenue (sounds exciting!) and then will head to the airport to assist Paul in "Swinging the gear".  We'll jack up the Little Donkey and do a landing gear retraction and extension.  This is a good thing to do.  Will also be moving the "Supply Chain" forward for the Air Mobile Rescuer.

I pray that you have a blessed day today.  I truly appreciate your love, prayer and support and THANKS for wandering down this path on this beautiful day that our Lord has made.  Let us rejoice and be glad in it.  God bless!!

STEADY PROGRESS.....ALONG THE JOURNEY

Received an e-mail from one of our manufacturers of Air Mobile Rescuer components.  Been awaiting this news.  The company is ready to start building the parts for us now.  These particular components will allow us to better service the nearly 800 units that we already have in 40 countries.  Some of our units have been in operation for nearly 8 years and certain parts are simply wearing out.  My heart is rejoicing!  We'll be able to better keep clean water flowing where it is desperately needed!

Folks, there is a whole big story behind that opening paragraph and I'm working on documenting it and actually putting it into our second book.  For those of you new to this blog, you may not know that I've written a book titled "Run To The Roar" and it tells the story of how we first began developing the Rescuer.  It is an incredible story of God's Grace and Providence!  Well, the story just keeps going on and we believe that our Lord is putting us into a position to bring a lot of clean water to those who are and will be in desperate need.  In other words, "The pieces are coming together.....in God's perfect time".

To you who follow this "rambling" blog, you've seen with us, so many miracles along this wonderful journey.  I do not believe that it is an accident that you are reading this blog today. I THANK YOU for walking along this path with us.

Today, we continue to work toward getting our Little Donkey back into the air.  We're working on a few more new components and tweaking and adjusting.  We're also gathering supplies for our next mission into Haiti.  Among the supplies will be replacement components for the units in operation in Haiti.  We currently have 321 Air Mobile Rescuers in Haiti.....thanks to your prayer and generosity!  The rainy season is about to begin in Haiti and with that is the increased probability of outbreaks of Cholera.  We are on a noble mission to save lives and share the love of God with so many.  The best way to stop cholera is with clean drinking water!

By the way, if you're interested in our book, "Run To The Roar",  jot me an e-mail with your mailing address.  My e-mail address is:   www.airmobilejoe@gmail.com  I simply ask for a donation in any amount to cover the cost.  I truly leave the amount up to you.  You may use the "Donate" button at the top of this blog.  I'll even sign the book for you, if you'd like.  If you're sending it as a gift, just tell me to whom you want it signed for.

Well, the roosters are crowing (to those who watched the Extreme Make-Over program), we have chickens and roosters.  The second cup of coffee has been poured and it's time for me to bring my Cindy to work.  We really love and appreciate you and THANKS for your love, prayer and support!  It's making a huge difference in lives around the world!  God Bless!!

YOU MUST HAVE BEEN PRAYING......

I took my first FAA (Federal Aviation Administration) Exam in 1980.  Since then, there have been many FAA tests....all the way up to Airline Transport Pilot (ATP), which some consider to be the "Doctorate of Flying".  Some of these tests have been very difficult.  Well, this test, that I took yesterday, had me quite concerned.  The "Fundamentals of Instruction" (FOI) deals with the Psychology of Teaching / Learning....according to the FAA. Many people have many opinions and ideas when it comes to Psychology and the FAA certainly has their version of this complex matter.

For the last 2 months, I've been studying the FAA version.  Also, there have been reports of higher than usual failure rates on this particular test because.....one must learn exactly what the FAA wants.  Also, it is reported that the test is quite "tricky".  Well folks, I can concur on the "tricky" part.  There were certain answers that I gave that, at the time, I was absolutely positive that my answers were correct.  Well, I missed a few but.....not too many!  I am pleased to tell you that I PASSED THE TEST (with flying colors)!!  THANKS FOR PRAYING!

Now, I can move on to the last phase of my CFI training.  It is called the "Practical" and involves an extensive Oral Examination and an Exhaustive Check-Ride.  You see, I'm going for 3 in 1.  The goal is to get the Certified Flight Instructor (CFI) with Instrument (CFI/I) and Multi-Engine Instrument (MEI).....all in one ride.  So for the next few weeks, the training will be very intense.

After taking the Exam yesterday, I headed back to my home field to see how Paul was doing.  Very pleased to let you know that the Fuel Indicator Units functioned perfectly.  Thanks Larry (Mr. Wizard) for your diligence and genius.  Today, we'll be hooking up a few more goodies and calibrating the fuel gauges.  Our Little Donkey is getting very close to getting "back into action".

It was such a blessing to have Owen Bell and his wife, Marla, come and visit us yesterday.  Owen really knows the Cessna 337.  He has graciously offered to add some amazing "winglets" to our Little Donkey.  These winglets will improve the performance even more.  We then departed the airport and headed over to the Hurston Extreme Make-Over Home.  So good spending some precious time with them.

It's that time, my roosters are crowing and the coffee cup is wanting a refill.  Will be working on the Little Donkey today with Paul.  Again, I can't thank you enough for your faithful prayer, love and support!  God Bless!!

TODAY - I TAKE THE TEST (FUNDAMENTALS OF INSTRUCTION) - HURSTON KIDS LEND HELP TO TITUSVILLE - A VISIT FROM OWEN BELL

It looks like today will be the day that I take the much anticipated "Fundamentals of Instruction" FAA Exam.  I've certainly studied for this and hope to pass it.  We'll see in a couple of hours.  My Cindy has been so helpful in preparing me.  Yes, this "Old Dog" is definitely learning some new tricks (it's not easy).  Would really appreciate your prayer as I take this exam (scheduled for 10:00am).  I understand that the failure rate for this test is quite high.  All I can do is study and prepare as best I can.

I must tell you how proud Cindy and I are of Juliet and Peter.  For the next few days, they, along with many other young people in our community, will be participating in "Project Titusville".  They will be working in our local Orphanage, Nursing Homes and other Community projects.  It is so good to see our young people caring for others.  Yesterday morning, our Pastor, Gary Ginn, asked the young people in our Church to come forward for prayer.  All I can say is, "we are blessed".

This morning, I'll be picking up our Fuel Sensors and bringing them to Paul to install.  My good friend, Larry worked tirelessly over the weekend checking every single circuit and component.  Again, our Lord is so good to send us such capable folks!

After I take the test this morning, will head back to our home airport and meet Owen Bell and his wife Marla.  Now, Owen knows the Cessna 337 EXTREMELY well.  He has engineered many upgrades and modifications for the C-337.  Owen provided and installed the extended range fuel tanks in Ti Burik.  Owen and Marla are in town and thought a visit would be good.  After our airport visit, he and Marla will come to see the Extreme Hurston Home.

Well, it's time to head out and get this day going.  Sure hope that all the stuff that I've been putting in my brain (regarding Fundamentals of Instruction) will be retained and I'll be able to demonstrate what I've learned.  God bless and as always, THANK YOU for your prayer, love and support!!

FINDING OLD TRANSISTORS -  MR. WIZARD TO THE RESCUE.....AGAIN & A PLACE CALLED "SKYCRAFT" - A BEAUTIFUL PANEL

Our quest to get Ti Burik back in the air continues.  We, of course, face certain obstacles along the way, but "such is life".  We continue to pray and seek and we find!  We have a certain little box that is part of our fuel indication system.  During our electrical melt-down of December 16th, certain components were destroyed, i.e. little transistors.  Now, this technology goes back to the 60's and 70's, so finding replacement parts is not always easy.  But, again, our Lord surely "knows how to deploy His troops"!

Larry to the Rescue.  Larry is one of the most knowledgeable men in this industry that I have ever known, and I've known some pretty smart folks.  Slowly and methodically, Larry went through the system and checked circuit after circuit and component after component.  Once the defective parts were identified, then the quest began locating them.  This is usually the big challenge when looking for parts for a 42 year old airplane.

Larry had done some checking on-line and notified me that in deed, the parts were going to be challenging to find.  There is a place in Orlando that is every "tinkers - inventors - technician's dream" - Skycraft.  So.....Larry and I took a ride to Skycraft.  Frankly, I love this place.

Skycraft has row after row of the coolest things.  It is just inspiring walking down the isles.  Soon, Larry, like a "heat seeking missle", went right to Transistors and found exactly what we needed.  We bought 5 of them for $.75 each!  We picked up a few other goodies.  What a great way to spend a Saturday.  Being with "Mr. Wizard" and being in Skycraft.  Ahhh, it doesn't get much better.

I ran back and forth between Larry's home (lab) and the airport doing certain tests and providing Larry with the info that he needed to repair our components.  Folks, I'm just thankful for men like Larry and their willingness to help us to bring clean water to thirsty people by keeping our Little Donkey in the air!

At the end of the day, I snapped this shot of our new Panel in Ti Burik.  I love the sign at the top of the Stack - "May God provide the wind beneath your wings - OAS".  That wonderful message was put there by Orlando Aircraft Services.

We move closer and closer to having our wonderful Ti Burik back on the path to Haiti.  So many folks are standing with us, I'm simply overwhelmed with the kindness, generosity and willingness to help by so many!

Well, it's Sunday morning in the Hurston Household.  We're getting ready for Church and then our ministry at the hospital in Orlando.  Just have time to share a delicious cup of coffee with my Cindy and then head out the door.  As always, THANK YOU for your precious love, prayer and support.  God Bless!!

PICK UP LITTLE DONKEY - TEST:  DELAYED - QUICK TURN AROUND ON "TOUGH" LAPTOPS

Oh, Folks, after flying for 45+ years, I've never had an Auto-Pilot like the S-Tec 55X!  Early yesterday, Dennis (Water Mule+) and I drove to Orlando Exec Airport to pick up Ti Burik.  The Auto-Pilot system was all complete and it was time for a test flight.  Troy, of Orlando Aircraft Services, and I took the Little Donkey up to test out the system.  Wow!....is all I can say.  Surely, "All things work together for the good....".  When the original auto-pilot system was damaged beyond repair we prayed and.....Our Lord came through with this remarkable "replacement".  Thank you, Jesus and S-Tec!!

From Orlando Executive Airport, I made the quick "hop" over to Merritt Island Airport.  It was time to take the FAA "Fundamentals of Instruction" Examination.  I have really been studying for this test.  Well, "the best laid plans....oft go astray".  The Test Center could not get the Test to "Load".  In other words, due to a computer "glitch", my testing has been delayed.  Oh well, this gives me the weekend to study some more.

I flew Ti Burik back to our home base, Space Center Executive airport where I met with Paul, our mechanic.  He's finishing up a few "squawks" and getting Ti Burik ready for our next mission.  It's so good to have The Little Donkey back in our "barn".

Then the phone rang, it was DRS Technologies.  Remember those "Tough" Laptops?  They were all done (in record time!) - new batteries, increased RAM and ready for pick up.  I dashed down to Melbourne and met with Shelley.  This is the young lady who took my original inquiry call regarding how to get replacement batteries.  She, of course, arranged for the 2 Extremely Tough laptops to be serviced and upgraded at no charge.  They even threw in an extra battery!  Thanks again, Shelley and DRS!

It's time to head to the airport to work with Paul on Ti Burik.  You know, it's good to have all the Navigation and Communication equipment all up and going.  Still can't get over that new Auto-Pilot system.  As always, THANK YOU for your love, prayer and support!  God Bless!!

PICKING UP A LITTLE DONKEY TODAY - TAKING THE TEST (FOI)

Received a call from  Orlando Aircraft Services yesterday.  A certain "Little Donkey" is ready to take up for a test flight.  The much awaited "Auto-Pilot" system has been installed.  Will be heading over to take Ti Burik up and run it through the paces this morning.  Ahhhhh!

Was up late last night studying for the FOI Test (Fundamentals of Instruction).  Scheduled to take the test later this morning.  After the (hopefully successful) test flight, I'll fly the Little Donkey right to Merritt Island Airport and take that test!  PLEASE pray that our Lord will help me to sort through all the stuff been learning on Teaching.

Well, it's time to take my Cindy to work and then study a bit more before meeting Dennis (The Water Mule), who will bring me to pick up Ti Burik.  Have to run for now.  THANKS AGAIN for your faithful prayer, love and support!

SPEAKING TO THE "O.W.L.S." - TESTING "THE TUBE" - UPGRADING SOME REAL "TOUGH" LAPTOPS - MORE FLIGHT TRAINING

What a delight speaking to "Seasoned Saints".  This group has named themselves the OWLS and that stands for "Older - Wiser - Loveable - Saints".  This was my second time to speak to the OWLS.  By special request, the group wanted me to share some "Mission Stories".

You see, one of the things that I'm learning from the "Fundamentals of Instructing" course, that I'm taking for my Certified Flight Instructor Rating, is to "Listen to your student" or in this case, my audience.  So, I gladly complied.

Yesterday, I shared a story of my early missionary career when my small team was brutally attacked by some very hungry folks in Haiti following a huge hurricane.  Our Lord certainly came through and rescued us and....eventually, we were instrumental in planting a church in the village.  I love sharing about the miraculous power of God!

After service, I turned over the recently machined Ozone/UV Chamber to Dennis, a Premier Water Mule, for testing.  We've set up a maintenance facility at Dennis's home so, he'll be doing some extensive testing on the new component.  We're moving closer and closer to an unlimited Supply Chain....so that clean water may flow to the thirsty!

Late yesterday afternoon, I met my Flight Instructor, Glen.  The Lesson:  "Glen was the Student, I was the Instructor".  Now, I'm putting those principles, that I've been studying, into practice.  Glen was a pretty good student and didn't "throw" too many challenges to me yet..... We have a ways to go, but overall, the training is going very well.  Glen is a very good instructor, for which I'm thankful!

I must tell you another wonderful testimony.  Several days ago, I wrote a blog titled, "A TOUGH LAPTOP FOR A TOUGH MISSIONARY".  In the report, I stated that Air Mobile was donating one of the very tough laptops, that we received from DRS Technologies, to our beloved "Rambo in the Blue Dress" (Barbara Walker).  The laptop needs a new battery and a "Ram" increase.

One of our other Water Mules, Doug, read the blog and offered to fund the upgrade to the laptop(s).  Actually, we have two laptops and Doug offered to do both.  Well, I called DRS Technologies and inquired on the availability and price of the components.  After an internal discussion, DRS said that they wanted to DONATE the upgrades to Air Mobile and Barb!  Again, I love it when our Lord "Deploys HIS troops"!

So, this morning, I'll be headed down to Melbourne to the DRS HQ to drop the two very tough laptops to get upgraded and re-batteried.  By the way, the batteries alone cost $134 each.  THANKS AGAIN DRS!!

When I phoned Doug, he rejoiced with me and went on to offer to fund another project.  I love our "Water Mules" whom our Lord sends our way!

After my run to DRS, I'll be back at the books studying for that CFI Exam on Fundamentals of Instruction.  As always, I so appreciate your precious love, prayer and support!  God Bless!!

MEETING JAKE OF LIFESTYLE HOMES - STUDYING FOR A TEST

When Extreme Makeover Home Edition began considering the Hurston Family, they needed a Builder to "Step up to the Plate" and take responsibility for the project.  Jake Luhn of Lifestyle Homes stepped up.  What a step of "Faith".  Jake had no guarantee on this matter, he just felt it was the "right thing to do".  Wow, what a huge step and we're the recipients of an "Extremely" amazing home!

It was such a joy for Cindy and I to have lunch with Jake yesterday.  We of course, stay in touch, but with our busy schedules, we have to work hard to "carve out time" to get together. During our time together, Jake shared some more "Behind the scenes" stories of the Extreme Makeover.  Folks, over 3000 volunteers built a magnificent home for us in 106 hours (4.5 days!!)!  I will say that again, 106 hours!

Prior to lunch, Cindy helped me study for my upcoming test for my Certified Flight Instructor Rating.  The test is called, Fundamentals of Instruction.  There is a LOT of Psychology involved in this test.  Cindy is, of course, a Psych Nurse and has a deep understanding of the subject.  So, she's an excellent "Coach" to help me prep for this test.

So after our lunch, I headed to my little office in the Air Mobile Hangar and kept right on studying through the afternoon.  The FAA has recently made the test quite a bit harder and the failure rate is quite high.  So, I'm burning the midnight oil and studying like crazy.  Yes, "An old dog can learn new tricks!".....if the old dog studies!

So, here I am, back in school learning some interesting and new techniques for teaching.  Actually, it's doing me some good.  Why, even this morning, I'll be speaking to group of Seniors at Space Coast Assembly of God in Titusville.  I must admit, all of this study on various and creative ways to teach will likely influence my message this morning.

Cindy is up and ready to head out the door to work.  We'll share a cup of coffee together and then I'll be heading over the Church to share what is on my heart.  As always, THANK YOU for your precious prayer, love and support!  God bless!!

EARLY MORNING MEETING - RECALLING AN AMAZING RESCUE - MEETING AN OLD FRIEND

Before sunrise yesterday, Barb and I headed to the airport to meet Jamie, a Premier Water Mule!  Jamie and Bob Bostic (Director of Kids Against Hunger) were flying to Haiti and offered to bring in some much needed supplies, specifically baby formula.  We arranged for them to pass by the Air Mobile Hangar.  I love it when our Lord puts things together!

We quickly loaded up the vital supplies and prayed together.  Jamie and Bob headed off to Haiti.  Bob introduced me to Jamie about a year ago.  Since then, Jamie has come to our rescue so many times.  It's good to know that we have back up pilots and planes.  Again, we're so thankful to Jamie and his willingness to help!

We then headed over to see another great Water Mule off, George Boivin.  I met George a number of years ago and he has since been an invaluable help to our ministry.  Well, George and his wife, Polly live in upstate New York and "Winter" down here, or better known as "Snow-Birds".  It's time for George and Polly to head back up north.  So, we passed by and George presented me with a gift, a beautiful model of a Cessna 337.  We'll paint it all up to look just like Ti Burik.

Next, we headed to our Air Mobile Board Meeting.  While enroute, I had to show Barb a picture of our precious Juliet.  She's on several billboards in our County promoting our local Community College.  You see, Barb "found" Juliet, an orphan in a desperate state, many years ago.  Cindy and I adopted this angel and have been extremely blessed since.  We're so thankful for Barb and the amazing work she does in rescuing so many!

We had an amazing Air Mobile Board Meeting.  Exciting things are happening in Air Mobile and particularly with the Air Mobile Rescuer.  After laying out strategic plans and goals, we prayed together and asked our Lord to bless our plans and above all, to lead us each step of the way.

After that wonderful meeting, it was time to get Barb to the airport for her to fly to Albany, NY for critical medical appointments.  By the way, THANKS to another great Water Mule, Southwest Chuck, Barb is flying FREE on Southwest.  Our Lord is so good to us!!

But...on the way to the airport, we stopped by another airport, Orlando Executive Airport to see another old friend.  Ironically, I wrote about Dr. Mac just several days ago.  He's a pilot, a Vet and an incredible friend.  He actually donated our first aircraft.  Well, he was at Orlando Aircraft Services getting his aircraft worked on.  Of course, that is where Ti Burik is getting the new auto-pilot.  So, we had to stop in and see Mac.  What a wonderful reunion.  We recalled so many stories.

I then dropped Barb at Orlando International to for her to fly back to Albany.  One thing I forgot to give her though was.....her free ticket.  I headed home and settled in to study for my upcoming Flight Instructor test.  The phone rang, it was Southwest Airlines.  Immediately, I knew what I had done.  Made a made dash back to Orlando, met Barb on the curb with the ticket and she got the last seat on the last flight to Albany.  Got a message around midnight that Barb made it.  Whew, what a day!

Today, will be gathering more supplies and having lunch with Jake Luhn, the Owner of Life Style Homes.  Jake and his crew spear-headed the whole Extreme Makeover Project and built us an incredible home.  Will be good to catch up with Jake and give him a good Air Mobile report.  I'll have my precious Cindy with me today and she'll be helping me to study for that Flight Instructor test.  She so understands the Psychology behind instructing.  Time to head out the door.  As always, THANK YOU for your faithful love, prayer and support!!

A TOUGH LAPTOP FOR A TOUGH MISSIONARY -

During Barbara's visit with us, she borrowed my computer to check her e-mail.  It dawned on me, that this tough missionary needed a tough laptop.  Well, it just so happened that during the Extreme Makeover of our home, one of the participants, DRS Technologies, donated a couple of very tough laptops to our Family.  We've been just awaiting the right moment and situation to bring those laptops into service.

The time has arrived.  Now, we've got to do a few things to these rugged old computers to get them up to speed, i.e. get them new batteries and a fresh "Office" load.  Folks, these are some very rugged computers.  I understand that they are combat, military grade.  A perfect laptop for a tough missionary, Barbara, or better known as "Rambo in the Blue Dress"!

Even though these computers are a bit older, they will do perfectly for Barb to check her e-mail and other simple functions while she's on the road.

It's time for us to scoot to the airport and meet the plane of a friend who'll be giving some much needed cargo a "free" ride to Haiti.  As always, thanks for your prayer, love and support.  God Bless!!

GATHERING SUPPLIES - HAVING A MISSIONARY "CELEBRITY" WITH US

A large part of mission work is simply working "Logistics".  Getting things from Point A to Point B to Point C.  Yesterday was a good day where things "fell into place".  Of course, things don't just do this on their own.  There is often, a lot of work that goes on in the background.

In this photo, we're putting together a quick load of formula, medicine, equipment, etc. because.....we found an aircraft traveling to Haiti and they have room for a couple hundred pounds of supplies.  So, we "scrambled" to get them ready for the "free ride" to Haiti.  Thus....Logistics.

Having Barbara in town has been a blessing.  There are many in our community that want to see this intrepid missionary.  For example, when Barbara was getting her hair done, folks seeking to bring a very sick little girl from Haiti came to WalMart to see her to get some good counsel and direction to perform this "rescue".  She's kind of like a celebrity.  Even the Hair Dresser in Walmart knows, "The Bar-ba-ra"!  Again, another example of "God's Logistics" or shall I say "Strategic Deployment".

Well, it's Sunday morning, we still have Barbara with us.  We'll be heading to Church and then to the Hospital (for Chaplain ministry) in a few minutes.  We're looking forward to the day.

Time to have that second cup of coffee with my Cindy and Barb.  As always, THANK YOU for your love, prayer and support.  God bless!!

LONG DAY - BEGINNING WITH A SICK CAT AND ENDING WITH A TIRED MISSIONARY ......A DAY IN THE LIFE

Was up and out the door early yesterday.  First stop at the Vet with a sick cat.  Remembered Dr. Mac Barksdale, a great Veternarian and old friend who donated Air Mobile's first airplane.  Before telling a bit about Dr. Mac, here's what happened with our cat, "Gold Digger".  Our beloved old cat had a limp and needed his shots so....to the Vet.  Was nothing serious, a little anti-biotic and his rabies shots.

Now, back to Mac.  I recall Mac telling me many stories about famous Vets who made major medical break-throughs.  He simply explained, an animal cannot tell you what's going on with words.  A good Vet must diagnose with a lot of knowledge and skill and work on basically the same organs as humans i.e. heart, liver, kidney, lungs, brain, etc.  Well, Mac went on to donate (in 1981) our first little airplane, a humble Cherokee 140.

So many memories.  In my book, "Run to the Roar", I tell a number of stories about that sweet little airplane, N8213C. Oh, here's a bit of irony.  The very hangar where Ti Burik is currently located  is Dr. Mac's old hangar.  Many years ago, John Webb and Orlando Aircraft Services moved into Mac's old hangar.

From the Vet, dashed to our Air Mobile / CSA Office to meet with our Quick Books Expert, Sandy.  We're getting all the accounting into order for our Corporate Taxes.  While Sandy was "crunching" numbers, Dennis and Barbara (Water Mules - Par Excellent) showed up.  Barb is keeping the Air Mobile books and she and Sandy had much to discuss.

Meanwhile, Dennis began setting up another "Assembly Cell" to make Air Mobile Rescuers.  Dennis has traveled all over the world with Air Mobile deploying the "life-saver".  Not only can Dennis deploy the unit, he can build and repair the unit.  We are working on establishing multiple locations to build and repair the Rescuers.  A kind of "de-centralization plan".  In the event of a major catastrophe, we want to be able to make Rescuers in many different locations.  Dennis is an integral part in this noble plan.

From the office, I headed over to NASA HQ at Kennedy Space Center, where I met Griffin, the NASA Scientist that has been testing the Air Mobile Rescuer.  We went over many of his findings.  I was very encouraged as he pointed out the strengths of the unit and made suggestions on ways to improve the performance.  This is such good information.  I'm simply thankful and....again, another example of "God knows how to deploy His troops".

From NASA, I headed over the facility that is machining our Rescuer components.  They made a number of "tweaks" on the main Chamber.  We're moving closer and closer to having every single component.  Our goal - to have a reliable "supply chain" to where we can make an unlimited number of Rescuers.  We're steadily moving toward that goal.

Next, headed to my little office in the hangar.  Had to study for my next flight lesson.  Getting very close to taking the next test, "Fundamentals of Instruction" (FOI).  After cramming a bit more information into my head, departed for Merritt Island Airport to meet with Glen, my Flight Instructor.

We took the Piper Seminole up and immediately, went into "engine out" training.  Seemed like every time I'd get the dead engine "Identified - Verified & Feathered", would breathe a little easier and then....it would happen again...another engine failure.  Glen worked me hard, but the training is paying off.  I'm slowly getting ready for that check ride.

Passed by my son Christian's home on the way home.  Always good to see the Grand-kids.  Also, Christian and I took a beautiful walk and I explained the remarkable progress we're making on the Rescuer.  He was there when the project was "born".  We prayed together and I wandered into our home around 9:00pm.  Our Pastor and a group of New Members were in our living room.  Cindy and I had agreed for our Church to have the New Members Class in the "Extreme Hurston Home" (we're pretty "Extreme").

Now, folks, this has turned out to be a LONG DAY but....it wasn't over.  At about 10:55pm, I headed back out the door to Orlando International to pick up a certain Missionary.....that ALWAYS wears a blue dress.  The Intrepid "Barbara Walker".  Her flight landed right on time and around 12:45am, I, somewhat, staggered (from exhaustion) up to bed.

Well, my precious Cindy needed a ride to work this morning, so, it was back up at 6:00am to bring her to work.  Today is going to be almost as long, as a whole bunch of people want to see "Rambo in the Blue Dress".  So, here we go again.  Just thought I'd give you "snap shot" of a day in the life of this missionary.

Time to get ready to head out the door to the hangar to get a load of formula / diapers and medicine ready for "free flight" to Haiti.  You see, another great Water Mule, Jamie, is headed to Haiti in his Cessna 206 and he can bring in a couple hundred pounds of supplies.  Barb is almost completely out of formula and other things in the "Village"....so duty calls.  As always, THANK YOU for your precious and invaluable prayer, love and support!  God bless!!

PIECES COMING TOGETHER - FOR MORE CLEAN WATER!

There is a Haitian Proverb that says, "Little by little....a bird builds it's nest".  We have been patiently, and PRAYERFULLY putting the pieces together for the Air Mobile Rescuer.  I am pleased to tell you that we're adding another "Piece" toward completing the puzzle.  I had an excellent meeting yesterday with an organization that is going to help us to manufacture certain critical components to this "Life Saving" machine.  The bottom line is:  More clean water will flow to the thirsty!

Many of you have stood faithfully with us in prayer for these critical pieces to come together.  Again, THANK YOU for your standing with us.  We still have a few more pieces to go, so please continue to stand and pray with us.  Success in this arena will absolutely save lives!

After a whirlwind of meetings, yesterday ended with a Bible Home Group meeting in our home.  We rotate leaders and yesterday evening, the lot fell to me.  I absolutely love studying the Word of God. What a nice way to end the day.

Today is filled with more meetings ranging from Accounting to Rescuer Testing to Flight Training.  And.....late this evening, we'll be blessed to have a certain missionary in our home.  Here's a clue - "She ALWAYS wears a blue dress".  We'll have the intrepid Barbara with us.  Barb serves on our Air Mobile Board of Directors and we'll be making excellent plans to bring more clean water to the thirsty.

So, we've arrived at the time of the morning that I must gulp my second cup of coffee and dash out the door.  As always, from the bottom of my heart, THANK YOU for your faithful love, prayer and support!  God Bless!!

DOCTOR GIVES "ALL CLEAR" - CHECKING ON TI BURIK - STUDYING FOR THE NEXT TEST - A GREAT LESSON FROM A "POTTER"

Cindy and I went to see Dr. Steve yesterday.  She got an MRI and got an "All Clear".  When one's vision suddenly changes (she had double vision for a few hours), it's good to get it checked out immediately.  After careful examination and many questions, the conclusion was, "we'll keep an eye on it".  Praise God!  Thank you for your prayers yesterday!

From the Doctor, I headed over to Orlando to bring in a replacement clock and get an update on our Little Donkey.  John, the Owner of Orlando Aircraft Services (OAS), has been working on Air Mobile aircraft for over 30 years.  John "knows avionics"!!  I'm so thankful, that the Extreme Makeover folks selected John to do the Avionics before they knew that John had been our Avionics guy for all those years.

Again, it is a good example of one of my favorite sayings, "God knows how to deploy His troops!".  Well, OAS is making good progress on the necessary upgrades to install the new Auto-Pilot system.  We're also moving some of the instruments around on the panel to make them even more usable.  Folks, I'm going to tell you, this Little Donkey is just getting better and better!!  All is on schedule.

From Orlando, I dashed back in preparation for my evening Flight Instruction.  Earlier in the day, while awaiting the MRI, Cindy helped me with the sample test questions for the "Fundamentals of Instruction" test that I have yet to take.  This is right up Cindy's alley.  Being a Psych Nurse, she's very familiar with the material and was a great help to me in prepping for the test.  I should be ready to take the exam soon.

Due to a scheduling conflict, my Flight Instructor, Glen had to reschedule me to Friday.  This allowed Cindy and I to attend an amazing service together.  The speakers were a real "Potter", Michael Rozell and his beautiful wife, Pam,  the former Miss Georgia.  What an incredible presentation of the Gospel.  Michael actually makes a lovely pot while Pam sings and shares.

It is such a beautiful picture of how we are the "Clay and the Lord is the Potter" molding and forming us into His image.  Surely, our Lord arranged for Cindy and I and our son Peter to hear this wonderful message on the love of God.  Our good friends and co-laborers, Lisa and Alfred Menendez invited us to this service.  THANKS GUYS!

Today, will be in meetings and gathering supplies for our next mission.  Time to get on with this beautiful day, "that the Lord has made, let us rejoice and be glad in it"!  THANK YOU again for praying for my Cindy and for your faithful and precious love, prayer and support!!  God Bless!!

HEADING TO THE DOCTOR - A BUSY DAY IN FLORIDA

In just a few minutes, Cindy and I will heading out the door to go see our very good Doctor friend and brother, Dr. Steve Badolato.  Steve has joined us on mission trips and been a great friend and supporter to this ministry.  He's also our family Doctor.  Cindy had an incident yesterday where she saw double for several hours.  We're having it checked out.  We would appreciate your prayers.

Yesterday was very busy.  Went from meeting to meeting.  Had some aircraft parts arrive so after the doctor's appointment (and depending upon what we find with Cindy) will be heading over to Orlando to keep our Little Donkey moving toward getting back in the air.  Received a good progress report yesterday on the installation of the Auto Pilot.  All is going as scheduled.

Also spoke with Barbara yesterday in Haiti.  Things are somewhat calm politically....for the moment.  We continue to pray for peace and calm, as this allows the reconstruction and much needed help and aid to flow.

Had a delightful lunch with Mick, the former Country Director of Namibia.  We discussed in great detail, the need for clean water and ways that we can help in those areas.  Well, it's time to head out the door to see Doctor Steve.  Please remember us  in prayer today.  God bless!!

A GORGEOUS DAY IN FLORIDA

The sun came out and we had an amazing day at Epcot.  It has been years since we've been.  Many nice changes.  Once you get "in the gate" (normally, the tickets are pretty pricey), things are fairly reasonable.  We ate well (not at the fancy restaurants) and stayed right on-budget.  Of course, we had gotten that very sweet deal of 3 days for $99 so the entry price was very reasonable.  Of course, according to Ariana, these were the best 2 days of her life!

Overall, we simply had a blast.  There is a very cool feature called "Fast Pass".  One simply goes to the ride of choice and get an "appointment".  The long lines are completely avoided in this way.  We ended the day with the most amazing ride, "Soarin".  All I can say is:  "WOW"! It brings simulation to a whole new level.  One "Soars" over beautiful parts of California in a "Hang Glider".  What a nice way to end the day.

We headed home last night quite satisfied and with very tired feet.  Well, today, it's back to work.  Have a meeting set with some relief workers from Africa who are interested in the Air Mobile Rescuer.  Will also be getting a status/update on the installation of the Auto-Pilot in our Little Donkey.

We're gathering supplies for our next run to Haiti.  Heard from Barbara (Rambo in the Blue Dress) last night.  She's having problems with her printer.  I may be carrying another one down for her.  It's time for much needed second cup of coffee with my Sweetheart.  As always, THANK YOU for your love, prayer and support!  God Bless!!

A RAINY DAY IN "FANTASY LAND"

Well, here's the deal.  We found a real bargain - 3 Days at Disney for $99 for Florida Residents. So, we saved up and did it.  We're in Day 2 today.  Yesterday, was at the Magic Kingdom, today we'll be at Epcot.  We'll reserve the 3rd day for some special time in the future.  It rained all day!  But, we still managed to have a blast and above all, we saw so many sweet smiles from our precious little Ariana.

For you see, when we first brought Ariana from Haiti almost 4 years ago, to have the "Life & Death" surgery for her, all during her recovery, she watched the story of Cinderella over and over again.  She could not speak English, but she could certainly see how a sweet little girl, who was in a pretty bad position, found herself rescued by a "Prince".

Cindy and I figured, it would be a good time to bring her let her meet the "Characters" in the story.  In the meantime, Juliet, Peter, Cindy and I had a most enjoyable day....in spite of the rain.  The crowds were low, the lines were short and we were able to ride "almost everything".  It was a good time to go to Disney. We bought some $.88 Ponchos at Walmart and used them all day.

My son, Chrisitian, and his beautiful family met us there.  They had recently won Annual Passes to Disney.  We slogged through the rain and enjoyed many rides together.  Oh, folks, we just had so much fun.  We had to take a silly shot.

Well, today we're heading to Epcot.  It's been years since we've been.  Understand there are some nice new displays.  Should be enjoyable and....No rain forecast.

So, here we are, about to head out the door to simply have an enjoyable time.  As always, love you and truly appreciate your love, prayer and support.  God Bless!!

ONE ENGINE TWIN - GOOD TRAINING - TBM JIM FINDS BABY CAPS

My flight instructor, Glen directed me to fly the Piper Seminole out over the ocean practice area.  We'd just finished some steep turns and slow flight when suddenly the left engine quit.  Glen calmly looked at me and said, "what're you going to do?".

My instincts had already kicked in.  I knew the left engine had quit, was maintaining altitude (barely) and we went through the identification / verification process and we then "feathered" and secured the engine.  Then we flew the little twin around on one engine for a while seeing what it was really like.  We were light, which helped.  Ahhh, this is good flight training.  I love it!

We re-started the dead engine and did a few more slow flight / stall maneuvers then came in for a few landings.  The last 2 landings, Glen pretended to be the student and I had to talk him down through a couple of landings.  This is a good picture of what it's like to instruct.  I'm truly looking forward to getting my new ratings.  Still have another written test to prep and take (Fundamentals of Instruction) and much preparation for the "Practical" which is the oral and flight check ride.  Still have a ways to go, but making steady progress.  It's good to be back in the "Flight Training Saddle".

From Merritt Island Airport, I headed over to my home base Airport, Space Center Executive.  The Warbird Airshow was getting ready to "crank up" for the day.  I met my dear "Water Mules", Dennis and Barbara West in so that they could have a "ringside" seat in our hangar for the airshow.

While there, TBM Jim walked up. Several months ago, I introduced you to this WW II Hero!  Jim had joined the Navy at the ripe old age of 17.  Quickly went into Flight Training and in short order, found himself flying TBM / TBF Torpedo Dive Bombers off of aircraft carriers to battle the Japanese.  Wow, what a story.  The TBM weighed over 10,000 pounds and packed a punch.  It is the same kind of aircraft that former President George H. Bush flew and crashed and was rescued by Submarine.  Quite a plane / quite a story.  Here's a Navy File Photo of the big bird!

Well, on our last visit, Jim had pledged to help get little knit caps for newborn babies in Haiti.  He had been inspired by Natalie, a local teen, dedicated to this noble task.  Jim informed me that he had secured a source and funding for 500 baby caps!  A brave man on another "Noble Mission".

From the airport, I headed back to our home to meet another couple of great Water Mules, Doug, Steve and Paul.  They were at the house to help fix a couple of things on our Extreme Makeover home.  What a blessing!

Then came the call from "Southwest Chuck" another great Water Mule.  Chuck has been absolutely "swamped" in helping other folks and it's been a while since we've just gotten together and visited.  He also had some more "Free Ride" Southwest Tickets for me and I had a couple of "Passes" to get into the Air Mobile Hanger for the Air Show.  So, today, Sunday, Chuck and a couple of his Southwest Buddies are headed to the Air Show, compliments of Air Mobile.  Glad we can give back to these guys.

In just a few minutes, The Hurston Family is headed out the door to Disney.  Yes, we're going to Disney on Sunday because.....we got some very cheap tickets and we want to bring our precious Ariana to meet some Princesses.  Oh, that's another story and I'll likely share a bit more in tomorrow's blog.  It's time to head out the door for a much needed get away.  Please, have a blessed day today!  As always, THANK YOU for your precious love, prayer and support.  God bless!!

UP EARLY - BACK IN THE "FLIGHT TRAINING" SADDLE - AIR SHOW GETS RAIN

Between taking care of a lot of business and my flight instructor being "a bit under the weather", it's been a couple of weeks since my last Certified Flight Instructor Training session.  Hopefully, that little "drought" will end this morning if.....the weather cooperates.

We've been getting our share of much needed rain and with that comes a bit of stormy weather.  We're right in the middle of an airshow at Space Center Executive where the Annual Warbird Show is held.  The forecast rain, may impede the show today.  We'll see.

Yesterday, between light "spattering" rain, my mechanic (Paul) and I sat in front of the Air Mobile Hangar and really enjoyed a "symphony" of "round motors" (old WWII Radial engines).  At one point, we had 5 B-25 Bombers circling in a tight formation with an F4-U, a P-51 and a P-40 darting about.  Ahhhhhh, the sound & sights were glorious.

Of course, the P-51's engine is not round and the Rolls Royce engine has a unique sound all it's own.  It is almost "indescribeable"!  It makes one's heart beat faster when you hear it.  This photo of a gorgeous P-51 compliments of EAA 2009.

In between the Warbirds, we saw precision jet teams and amazing aerobatics.  I love Airshows, but also remain apprehensive, as I know, as a pilot, just what incredible risks these pilots are taking.  Unfortunately, I've seen a number of my friends die in days gone by.  So, there are mixed feelings when I see close, tight, stressing to the limit, high speed, maneuvers.  I find myself praying a lot as I watch the pilots "push the airplanes and their skills to the limits".

Having my second cup of coffee.  About to take my precious Cindy to work this morning and then, a bit more studying in preparation for my next flight lesson.  My Instructor is feeling much better.  Now, if the weather cooperates, and we are forecast to have more rain and storms today, we'll fly a little Piper Seminole and do some slow flight, stalls, single-engine work and general maneuvers.  I'm looking forward to that.

Have a blessed day, and as always, THANK YOU for your faithful love, prayer and support!

PS - My old, jittery laptop came up and worked this morning.  Still have not decided on just what to replace it with.  I do know when, but soon, I'll have to make a decision.  Again, would really appreciate a bit of prayer for good guidance on this matter.  Thanks!  Joe

HAITI JITTERY - MORE VOLUNTEERS SHOW UP - NEED COMPUTER WISDOM...

After Haiti experienced the 4.6 earthquake, the good news is that there was no reported injuries or damage.  I did receive another e-mail from Barb (Rambo in the Blue Dress) last night stating that though Haiti is still "jittery" from the quake, there is a growing discontent with the new President.  We need to lift Haiti up in prayer.

Had several good meetings yesterday, beginning with breakfast with an inventor of a unique battery (power supply) that could help the Air Mobile Rescuer in very remote locations.  We'll continue to explore ways that we can work together.

From that good meeting, I met with Joe Prussel, another great " Water Mule".  Joe is working  on a project that makes fuel much more efficient.  He had with him, Hal, the President of the company that makes this "miracle" stuff.  Right now, with the cost of fuel skyrocketing, this seems to be a good business to be pursuing.

Received a call from Lee.  Now Lee has offered to Volunteer for Air Mobile several times.  I quickly took him up on his offer and we met at the Hangar a midst the sound of roaring engines and low-flying aircraft.  He had his girlfriend with him, Elizabeth.  My job for them today:  sweep and clean the hangar.  They gladly took to the task and often ran out of the hanger to see what type of aircraft just flew by.

You see, the Annual Warbird Show is this weekend and the participants have begun to arrive.  This was a very sweet assignment for them and for Air Mobile.  Our hangar looks great.

Today, I'm working through some obstacles, as my "old trusty laptop" is just not working (not so "trusty" anymore).  I'm posting this blog on a "bullet proof" laptop that was donated to The Hurston Family as a result of the Extreme Makeover.  This laptop is a bit old, but looks like it could go through about anything.  It's called an "Armor C-12".  At any rate, I need wisdom to know which way to proceed, as a laptop is so important, especially regarding this daily blog.

May I ask you to pray for me today, that I will go in the right direction regarding this computer matter?  As alway, I'm so appreciative to you for your faithful prayer, love and support.  God Bless You!!

HAITI ROCKED BY MODERATE EARTHQUAKE - SOLAR FLARE STRIKES EARTH - A BEAUTIFUL B-29 NAMED "FIFI"

I awakened early this morning to an e-mail from Barbara (Rambo in the Blue Dress).  Barb, writing from Haiti, simply said, "Had quake at 9:30pm....how big was it????".  After a quick check, Haiti had a 4.6 quake and it occurred in the southeastern region near Port-Au-Prince.  This is the area that forecasters are saying will experience the next major quake.  Hundreds of thousands are still living out-of-doors and there is little or no infrastructure in place to handle another quake.  We PRAY for Haiti and ask our Lord to send His GRACE upon that suffering land.

Meanwhile, last night, the first particles from the massive Solar Flare began striking the earth (at 4 million mph).  As of this morning, I have not seen any reports of power outages or disruptions in GPS navigation.  Thank the Lord, it appears that we might have gotten a "glancing blow".  Again, just like Haiti, we ask our Lord to cover us in His GRACE and THANK Him for His MERCY!

This flare, though quite large, was a 2.5 - 3 on a scale of 1-5.  Solar flares pose a large danger to our electrical grid and communications and navigation.  Should a massive flare hit, things would get pretty bad, pretty quickly.  That is the reason, we should all prepare and have a plan in place to have food and water should a disruption occur.

This is another reason we are working diligently to get all of the "pieces" in place so that we can manufacture an unlimited number of Air Mobile Rescuers.  We are making good steady progress on that project.

Yesterday, while I was at the airport in my "field office", I first saw and then heard the most beautiful sound.  The four big radial engines on a gorgeous B-29 named "FiFi".  She made a low pass right over my hangar and then came in for nice "cross wind" landing on Runway 18 at Space Center Executive Airport.

For you see, this weekend, we'll have our annual Warbird Air Show.  I can hardly wait!  By the way, I tried to "capture" 'FiFi' landing, but my phone camera did not have a zoom lense, so I borrowed this shot of 'FiFi' landing at some other field (www.airpigz.com).

This morning, I'm having breakfast with an Inventor / Scientist who has a battery that produces water as it generates electricity.  We're working on a way to both power the Rescuer and at the same time will generate water that we can purify.  This could be a true "win-win-win" situation.  Will keep you advised.

It's time to head out the door.  As always, THANK YOU for your faithful love, prayer and support!  God Bless!!

THE PASSING OF AN ERA.....

Yesterday, I had some meetings at Kennedy Space Center and passed a Shuttle along the way.  What a machine!  As I drove by the Big Bird, so many memories flooded through my mind.  For seven years, I flew for NASA on a critical project directly related to the Shuttle Missions.  It was good to be a member of the "Launch Team" and participate in such an awesome, historical program.  Those days are gone......

No one is quite sure where "Manned Space Flight" is going.  Much is being turned over to the Private Sector.  This may be good....we pray it is!

Had a very productive meeting yesterday in Melbourne with Mark, our business partner.  We are making steady progress toward re-building our cartridge business since the shut down of the Shuttle Program.  Later yesterday, while out at Kennedy Space Center (KSC), had a good meeting with an old client.  We're hoping to rebuild some of the business at KSC.  The problem is, no one is quite sure where the "Space Program" is going.  So, we plant seeds, pray, be available and above all,  seek His direction and wisdom.

Earlier, I had told you about the splendid work that a couple of our Volunteer (Water Mules) did on installing and modifying some cabinets in our hangar.  Doug and George completed the shelves/ cabinets on Monday.  Had to show you a shot of the excellent work.  Southwest Chuck (another great Water Mule) located the cabinets / shelves and Doug and George put on the finishing touches.

Doug even put an old "Air Mobile" sign in the hangar.  This sign was "air brushed" by an old friend nearly 20 years ago.  It is good to see it in such a prominent place.  In the lower right of this photo is a beautiful engine mount on wheels made by one of Southwest Chuck's mechanic friend.  I know I say this a lot, but where would we be without great Volunteers??  and......"Our Lord knows how to deploy His troops"!!  This is so true.

Behind the scenes, we've got a great Volunteer Coordinator, Barbara Walker (not Rambo in the Blue Dress...another Barbara).  Barbara had an illustrious  career in the U.S. Air Force flying heavy transport jets.  Then she flew 747 / 777's for United Airlines  and now....Air Mobile is blessed to have her as our Volunteer Coordinator.  Barbara is doing a great job!  Again, we are so thankful!!

Today, I'll be gathering more parts for our Little Donkey and getting them over to Orlando Aircraft Services.  So glad Ti Burik is getting that new Auto-Pilot system.  So, today is another day...."that our Lord has made".  Let us rejoice and be glad in it!  As always, I THANK YOU for your faithful love, prayer and support!!  May you have a BLESSED Day!!

TI BURIK GOES TO ORLANDO TO GET NEW AUTO-PILOT

It was a cool clear morning, perfect day for flying.  I called George, one of our great "Water Mules" and asked for a ride back from Orlando.  First, we met at the hangar.  George is a pilot of many years and used to own a Lake (a very cool Amphibious aircraft).

I asked George if he'd like to take the "Little Donkey" around the patch with me before I bring it to Orlando.  A sparkle came in George's eyes and he smiled.  The wind was out of the north at about 8-10 knots.  I had about 60 gallons fuel, we were light.  Led the take-off by running up the rear engine first, then brought in the front engine and held the brakes.  Both engines were at Take-Off power, brake release, and we quickly accelerated to 40mph, I eased back on the yoke and then rolled in full flaps.  At 55 mph and after rolling about 200 feet, Ti Burik "leaped into the air".  George smiled.  I simply said, "Pretty short".

Folks, this little airplane is amazing.  It has incredible short-field take-off and landing capability.  It can carry a significant load about 1500 miles up to 30,000 feet at over 200mph and land on a very short field upon arrival, all with the safety of twin engines.  This is a true "Missionary Airplane" and I'm so thankful that our Lord gave it to Air Mobile Ministries!  THANKS again, Bill Duncklee (the donor)!  What a wonderful tool!!

Well, George and I came in and touched down and came to stop at about the same spot that we rotated (at about 200 feet).  Again, George simply smiled and shook his head.  I dropped George at the hangar without even shutting down the engines and then I made the 13 minute flight to Orlando Executive Airport.

Met with Troy Webb of Orlando Aircraft Services (OAS) and we went over the details of the installation of the brand new S-Tec 55X Auto-Pilot.  Troy was instrumental in speaking with S-Tec about "upgrading" our system and not repairing the old system.  S-Tec stepped up and donated the major portion of the new Auto-Pilot.  THANKS S-TEC!!

We discussed the best way to "Re-Arrange" the instrument panel to better access all of the new "gadgets".  Troy and his Dad, John, have been doing "Avionics Work" for Air Mobile for over 30 years.  These guys are good....REAL GOOD!  Again, I'm so thankful for the excellent "troops" our Lord sends our way in this noble mission of bringing clean water and the Love of Jesus around the world!

I must tell you about one more blessing.  Recently, The Garmin Corporation, thanks to Dave Brown, sent Air Mobile a replacement "Yoke Mount" GPS.  The original unit that we had did not have "Weather Capability".  One day, this box simply arrived.  The Aera 510 gives us the capability of bringing XM Satellite Weather right into our cockpit.  WOW!  This will make our flight so much safer.  THANKS again, Dave!!!

One more thing about the Garmin Aera 510, I can bring down XM Radio and get the news and good Christian music while enroute.  Kind of cool.

Well, today is going to be a good day.  Have a meeting scheduled with Mark, our associate business partner with Cartridge Source of America (CSA).  Mark and I have been working on bringing in more business for CSA.  While many businesses simply "shut down" when NASA cancelled the Space Shuttle Program, we have opted to continue to "fight the good fight (of faith)" and remain in business.  We're working on some very exciting new accounts.  My goal is to bring CSA out of the dangerous waters (with the help and guidance of our Lord) and pay all of our debts and actually see profit.  With God, ALL things are possible!

I also spoke with my Flight Instructor, Glen, yesterday evening.  We're scheduled to continue the Flight training toward the Certified Flight Instructor / Instrument / Multi-engine rating.  I'm truly enjoying this great flight training.  Time to head out the door.  As always, THANK YOU for your faithful love, prayer and support!!  God Bless!!

DEADLY WEATHER PASSES - 15 MONTH OLD TODDLER DIES BRINGING THE DEATH TOLL TO 39 - SOME REFLECTIONS ON "THE STORMS OF LIFE"

One of the great mysteries of these violent tornadoes was the little 15 month old girl that was found in a field 10 miles from her home.  Her parents and 2 siblings died in the tornado and this little one, Angel Babcock, from New Pekin, Indiana was found alive in a field.  Well, yesterday, Angel succumbed to her injuries and passed away.  We will never know what happened.

Meanwhile, rain and snow is expected in some of the hard hit areas of Indiana and Kentucky.  Please take a moment and pray for those whose lives have been shattered by these deadly storms.  Life can be very hard.  There are certainly times that we do not understand why things happen.  Our Lord never said that life would be easy.  He did promise, however, to NEVER leave us or forsake us.  These are the times to simply stand and trust our Lord and call upon Him in our times of hardship.

You know, for the last 45 years of my life, I have been involved in some type of relief work.  I have witnessed so much destruction and suffering over the years.  But do you know the thing that I still find so amazing?  Following a series of storms, like what just happened, with so much destruction, I am amazed that the death toll is not so much higher.  In the midst of all of the destruction, there are thousands and thousands of testimonies of those that survived miraculously.  So, in the midst of the storm, remember our Lord.  He is an ever present help in time of trouble.

Following Church yesterday, the Hurston Family met with the Mendendez Family and we ministered together to a group of young people in the Hospital.  What a blessing.  The Menendez Family has been ministering on Creation Science and the young people had so many questions, very good questions.  The Menendez's had captured, categorized and answered all of the questions.  We had a wonderful time yesterday going over them with the young people.

Perhaps, you who follow this meandering blog, would like to join us on some Sunday afternoon in this incredible ministry.  Simply contact me if you'd like to join us sometime.  I assure you, it will bless you!  Here's my e-mail address:  airmobilejoe@gmail.com . Feel free to contact me if you'd like more details.

This morning, I'll be flying Ti Burik over to Orlando, to have the new Auto-Pilot system installed.  This will complete the full restoration of the electrical system / avionics repair from the infamous "meltdown" that occurred on December 16th.  This has been a beautiful example of Romans 8:28 - "All things work together for the good, to those that love God, those the called according to His purpose".  A rather "crummy situation" has turned out for the good.  Our Little Donkey is MUCH better with better electrical / avionics systems.  Thank you, Jesus!

Again, I urge you to pray for the many victims of the recent tornadoes.  Ask our Lord what He would want you to do to help.  As always, I am so humbled and blessed by your faithful love, prayer and support.  God Bless!

DEATH TOLL FROM DEADLY TORNADOES REACHES 38

I awakened early this morning to a Weather Alert - High winds are forecast to hit our area of Florida in the next 2 hours.  As I type this blog, the wind is howling outside.  Thankfully, the terrible storms that brought such death and destruction to 10 states and left 40 dead and hundreds injured, have dissipated.  We PRAY for all of those that have been devastated by these storms.

Yesterday, I had the wonderful privilege to perform the wedding ceremony for the son of a very dear friend of mine.  It was such a joy to "Marry" Tony and Melissa.  I love doing weddings.  Love is a beautiful thing.

From the wedding ceremony, I dashed back to the hangar to meet Alfred, a top NASA Engineer.  Alfred and his family have been teaching a series of messages on "Intelligent Design" Creation for the young people at the Psychiatric Hospital where we are Chaplains.  After teaching an extensive series, the young people had plenty of questions.  Alfred and I printed up all of their questions and our Biblical answers.  Again, we simply love sharing the grace and wonder and love of God with these young people.

While the little printer in my hangar office was printing, Alfred and I took Ti Burik "around the patch" for a few touch and goes.  As I mentioned at the beginning of this blog, we're on a weather alert.  Even now, I can hear the wind howling(around 45 knots).  Well, yesterday afternoon, the conditions were perfect for me to demonstrate to Alfred just how short Ti Burik can take-off and land.  We were off the ground in around 200 feet and we came in and landed in about 200 feet.  Folks, that's very short!

As I close this blog out today, my heart is very heavy for all of the folks that have had their lives shattered by these storms.  Please remember them in your prayer.  As always, I THANK YOU for your love, prayer and support!  God Bless!!

A MONTH'S WORTH OF TORNADOES IN ONE DAY!! - DEATH TOLL 28 AND RISING...

Once the count is confirmed, it is likely the outbreak will have spawned as many tornadoes as we see in all of March.  The enormous outbreak of huge "Super Cells" brought death and destruction from Alabama to Indiana.

Now, here is a special and immediate prayer request:  Our intrepid Barbara Walker (Rambo in the Blue Dress), traveled out of Haiti on Thursday to fly to Indiana on Friday to attend the annual Indiana Reunion of all the adoptees that she has arranged.  We have not heard from Barbara as of now.  Please pray that she is OK.  THANKS!

Also, please PRAY for all of the victims of these terrible, unprecedented storms.  It is still too early to tell the depth of the destruction, but the death toll is expected to rise.  We're monitoring the situation very closely.

Meanwhile, today, I have the privilege to perform a wedding for the son of a very dear friend.  I love doing weddings.

When we hear from Barb, I'll post an update on the this blog.  As always, I truly, THANK YOU for your faithful prayer, love and support.  God Bless!!

SMOOTH FLIGHT BACK TO THE U.S. - A BIT MORE ABOUT ABOUNDING > ABASING > ABOUNDING......

After getting up bright and early yesterday morning and taking my time, enjoying a delicious cup of coffee with a beautiful Haitian Sunrise I wrote a blog telling all about getting caught in an unexpected torrential storm and being RESCUED several times by kind Haitians (read on down to get the full story).

I had plenty of time and was right on schedule.  Then....I went to "Post" the blog and it would not post.  Then, I tried to save the copy of the blog and my computer then completely froze up.  My "Peace" was rapidly departing.  With  agony, I had to do a "Hard Shut Down" on my computer and yes....I lost the blog that I had just written.

Now, the problem was, there was a Little Donkey awaiting me at the airport.  It was time to fly back to the U.S.  I had a schedule to keep.  I had secured a ride to the airport, and my driver also had a schedule to keep.  So, while "bouncing" along rough Haitian roads with gridlock traffic, I slowly, painfully began to "re-write" my daily blog.  It was not the same, it rarely is.

Upon arrival at the airport, I still had plenty to write, so I continued writing while sitting on the wheel of the right landing gear of Ti Burik.  Suddenly, I get the "low battery" warning.  I'm writing as quickly as I can.  Dear me, I'm about to lose it again.  Now, that would have really hurt.

I saw Dave Carwell with MAF walking toward me and I grabbed the power cord and ran to the MAF office and got plugged in just as the computer was about to shut down.  Saved again!  I also told Dave all about the terrible rain storm and why I could not make it to the Church Celebration of MAF's 25th Anniversary of operating in Haiti.  I really wanted to attend and meet with many of my old friends from Haiti.  Sometimes, things just don't work out the way we want them to.

By the time I finished "Posting" the blog, the Little Donkey was all fueled.  I could finally breathe a bit easier.  You know, many times, when you read my "Rambling, Daily Blog", you may not know the story behind the story.  I could (and may) write a book just about writing a Daily Blog from all over the world in all kind of conditions.  Boy, do I have some stories to tell!

I bid farewell to my dear MAF friends, crawled into Ti Burik, fired up the engines and headed back to the U.S.  Was anticipating very strong headwinds and a longer than usual flight. PRAISE GOD, the forecast was wrong and I actually picked up a tiny tail wind for much of the flight.  Flew back at 12,500 feet and sipped a little Oxygen to keep alert.  All of the repairs that we had done on the electrical system performed perfectly.  It was just a pleasure "hand flying" Ti Burik because we are awaiting the installation of our new Auto Pilot system.

Cleared Customs in Fort Pierce and then made the little short hop back to our Home Base in Titusville.  Called Doug (Great Water Mule) and he helped my slide the "Little Donkey" into the "barn".  Doug had  been doing some great work in our hangar while I was in Haiti.  The cabinets and shelves that he's built will really help to maintain "order" in the hanger.  THANKS Doug!

I met Cindy, Juliet, Peter and Ariana at our favorite "Return from Haiti Restaurant", Corky Bells.  They have GREAT seafood.  We're making this somewhat of a tradition when I fly home.  After a delicious meal, we headed home, just in time to meet our Church Life Group that meets at the Hurston Home.

As we sat in a circle and had a wonderful Bible Study, my mind went back to where I was just 24 hours prior.  "Caught in a terrible storm, soaking wet, cold and lost in Haiti" and now, sitting in this Extreme Home (talk about 2 worlds!)!  My, how things can change in our lives...suddenly.  The real message in all of this is, no matter where we find ourselves, "hang on to Jesus".  Simply trust that He is with us and will never leave us or forsake us.  So, life does have it's ups and downs and ups and downs....etc. etc.  May we all be in the school of learning to trust our Lord through it all.

Well, now that I've really rambled this morning, it's time to head to the airport to meet with Paul, our mechanic, and go over our routine inspections.  As always, THANK YOU for bearing with me and riding along this sometime bumpy road.  So appreciate your prayer, love and support.  God bless!!

MORE GOODIES FROM TI BURIK - A BIT ABOUT ABASING & ABOUNDING...

Well, this is my second attempt at a blog this morning.  I was up real early, wrote a complete blog and then.....my computer froze up.....arghhhh!  Please Lord, give me patience and grace this morning!  I'm currently in an old beat up Toyota pick truck that Barb has affectionately named "Washington" because it has crossed so many rivers.

I never cease to marvel at how many good things we can bring in Ti Burik.  Among the things we brought in were seeds from George.  These seeds make other seeds.  Many seeds that we buy don't do that.  Barb is re-packaging them and we're working on getting them out into needy areas, like the tent cities.  So glad for our Little Donkey that can carry in such cool things.

As I've shared earlier, our "Village" generator died (cracked block).  Pat Moore and I, Pat is an old friend of Barb's and comes to Haiti often, headed into town to do some "negotiations" on getting the big generator repaired and securing a good back-up generator.  This will assure regular power in the village.

We headed back to the Village and worked on refurbishing Rescuers.  Pat is a good assistant and I was glad to have him with me today.  We took a break and passed out some new shoes, compliments of Katie.  Katie is a high school student who was born in China and is the daughter of  Delta Rose.  We are so proud of Katie and her precious heart to serve and help others less fortunate.  Again, Ti Burik carried in those shoes.

Pat and I worked on Rescuers until I had to finally scoot into town to "attempt" to attend another Mission Aviation Fellowship 25th Anniversary celebration.  I had planned to meet Pastor Enock (great Air Traffic Controller and long time friend) and his beautiful bride for dinner.  Then, after dinner, we would ride together to the MAF Celebration.

Well, I got lost and.....the clouds rolled in and a tropical, torrential downpour came out of nowhere.  I was lost and drenched!  My Haiti cell phone was almost out of minutes and my calling cards were saturated.  I found a dry spot in a gas station under the awning along with about 200 other folks who fled the downpour.

There is a certain camaraderie among motorcyclist.  A young man (another biker) saw my plight offered me a little plastic bag to put my passport and other vital documents into.  Thank God for that act of kindness!

After the rain came to a drizzle and I was able to communicate with Enock on my few remaining seconds before the phone died, I headed out into the flooded roads and picked my way between the huge pot holes that were disguised under water.  Pastor Enock and I met in front of the American Embassy.  I tucked the little motorcycle under a Sea/Land Container and got in his old Land Rover.

We worked our way up the mountain to his lovely home.  We were met by his new bride and a beautiful, elegant French Feast.  They put me into dry, warm clothes and I slowly opened up all my documents to let them dry.  They truly rescued me.  For just an hour before, I was in pure misery, cold, wet and lost.  It's amazing how quickly things can change.

I'm reminded of Paul in Philippians 4:12 about "Abounding and Abasing".  The Lord is still working on me!  So glad the evening was moving toward abounding!

After a lovely dinner and beautiful fellowship, Enock brought me back to my little motorcycle.  The sky was spectacular with brilliant stars.  My, how things can change.

Well, I'm now sitting on the wheel of my Little Donkey fueling it.  Will make a little flight today.  Will tell you more tomorrow.  Have to run.  As always, THANK YOU for your faithful love, prayer and support.  Gotta run.

MAF CELEBRATES 25TH ANNIVERSARY IN HAITI - HAITI MOVES CLOSER TOWARD NEW AIR TRAFFIC CONTROL (ATC) EQUIPMENT

Yesterday was a banner day in many ways.  Headed out of the Village early to bring some soccer uniforms to our favorite Tent City, "Caanan II".  My point of contact was all ready for me and the transfer went smoothly.

The colors were great, red and black and the name on the Uniforms (that were donated thanks to a good NASA friend) is "The Saints".

From there it was down to the airport to meet the Director General of Civil Aviation, Captain Flambert.  We discussed the status of the proposal that we presented in December.  The good news is:  looks like the funding is coming through!  Many of you have been praying for this situation, because the existing ATC equipment is on it's last leg.  We should be getting confirmation very soon.  THANK YOU for your prayers and please, don't let up until the equipment is in place.  The replacement of this equipment will dramatically increase aviation safety in Haiti!

Next, it was to the grand Mission Aviation Fellowship (MAF) 25th Anniversary party.  What a joy to celebrate with this fine organization.  I had the wonderful privilege over 25 years ago to strongly encourage MAF to come to Haiti.  What a blessing to work side by side with them in the "early days".  We shared many memories and above all, we gave God the Glory for the many miracles He has done with and through this organization.

Dave Carwell, the Director of MAF, and a very close personal friend invited John Boyd, the President and CEO of MAF.  It was great getting to meet John and sharing so many stories.  John grew up in Zimbabwe and has a rich background in mission aviation.

Also present was Rick Dickson, Senior Director Regional Operations.  Rick served many years in Africa and Costa Rica and now is at Headquarters doing an amazing job.  MAF is, in my humble opinion, the finest Mission Aviation organization on the planet.  Haiti is blessed to have them and we all look forward to the next 25 years of service to Haiti for the Glory of God!

Well, I'm running on limited batteries this morning.  Our "Village" generator has died and we've been running on batteries and the local power, which went out yesterday and has yet to return.  Today, we'll be exploring a new replacement generator for the village.  Please pray that our Lord will lead us each step of the way.

Time to head out.  We'll see what our Lord has for us today on this amazing adventure!  As always, THANK YOU for your faithful love, prayer and support.  God Bless!!

AND YET ANOTHER RESCUER TO THE RESCUE.....POWERED BY THE SUN

Oh, it was a busy day yesterday.  Started out by first, writing my little rambling blog.  So good watching the sunrise over the mountains to the sound of many crowing roosters and other critter sounds.  Had a nice couple of cups of coffee and just thanked our Lord to be alive and able to serve Him.  Folks, this blog is truly therapy for me.  For those you who are brave enough to read this rambling journey, THANKS for riding along with me.  Here's a shot of the Solar unit before we presented it.

I checked the "road" report and there were no visible "hot spots" so I headed up first to Samaritan's Purse and delivered a load of toner cartridges.  It's funny, I started our Cartridge company in Haiti 19 years ago in a mud hut village.  And here I am, still providing toner cartridge service in Haiti.

Headed back to the Village and then dashed out on the motorcycle to bring some shock aborbers to my good friend Pastor Enock.  Also confirmed an appointment with the Director General of Civil Aviation, Captain Flambert.  We're still working on helping Haiti to get some much needed Air Traffic Control equipment.  The existing system is on it's last leg.  Please pray we are successful in this noble venture.

From there, I headed over to Mission Aviation Fellowship (MAF) who is about to celebrate 25 years of operation in Haiti.  I know a little something about those early days.  Believe me, the start of MAF in Haiti was "a wonderful act of God" and is still going on to this day.

Headed back to our Village to get ready to meet Joel, the Director of a small orphanage.  Joel also works for Samaritan's Purse and we've checked out his operation very carefully.  He's a fine young man and doing a superb job.  Well, his orphanage is located right next to a river that, several years ago, flooded and many people were lost and many orphans were produced.  Joel and his family had to do something.

So, they started a small orphanage.  I've visited it and it's clean and well run.  Of course, they need clean water.  As a matter of fact, a number of the children are sick right now (probably due to dirty water).

So, yesterday we (and you) did something about that.  We presented Joel an Air Mobile Rescuer and a Solar System to power the unit.  We spent several hours going over the system and explaining the way to keep the unit in good operational shape.  Joel is a sharp young man and I'm so glad that we could finally get this unit into his hands.

At the end of the session, I had the wonderful privilege to present the unit to him.  This unit will provide all the water that his orphanage will need and....even be able to provide his neighbors with clean water.  What a blessing!

I can't even begin to express in words what a blessing it is to be able to do this. There are so many people that I want to THANK for helping me to do this.  I'd like to begin with my precious wife who truly understands what we are doing.  My Cindy lived many years in Haiti, even before we were married, and she well knows the depth and need for clean water.  She's my biggest supporter in this mission.   Then, I'd like to thank my children (all 8 of them).  They've all been with us on missions and fully understand what we are doing.  They often come along.  Then, I'd like to THANK YOU who stand so faithfully with us as we travel this road to bring clean water to the thirsty and desperate.

Well, it's time to get out and about today.  We're checking the status of the roads and will determine the best routing to avoid problems.  As always, THANK YOU again for your faithful love, prayer and support!!

TI BURIK BACK ON THE "PATH" TO HAITI - FLIES LIKE A DREAM - VITAL SUPPLIES ARRIVE - ANOTHER RESCUER TO THE "RESCUE"

EARLY yesterday morning, I arrived at Space Center Executive Airport and put the final load into our Little Donkey.  Checked all the fuel thanks (have 14 of them!) and fired her up.  Pushed the microphone button and activated the Runway Lights and eased the throttles forward for Haiti!

Ti Burik quickly climbed to 15,000 feet and I settled down to a beautiful ride.  However, the new Auto-Pilot system is not yet installed so I had to work a bit more than usual this morning, having to "hand fly" the Little Donkey.  I must tell you, this little airplane is sweet!  The engines were smooth as silk and the electrical system performed absolutely flawlessly.  Watching the beautiful Caribbean Sunrise never gets old!

Upon arrival, my faithful "ground crew" unloaded Ti Burik and marveled at how much this Little Donkey can carry over such a long distance.  She is appropriately named, "Ti Burik".

My supplies included fresh food for our missionaries, dipers, thousands of pre-natal vitamins, little knit baby caps, soccer uniforms, new shoes, toner cartridges, electrical equipment for a hospital, wedding flowers for a dear friend of Cindy, replacement components for the Rescuer including new carbon filters, special tools and 2 new Rescuers for 2 orphanages.

I was soon met at the airport by our "Intrepid Barbara", better known as "Rambo in the Blue Dress".  Barb had just landed from a trip to Africa where she was following up on some Rescuers in Morocco.  We headed to the Village.  The streets in Haiti are quite tense right now due to the sudden resignation of the recently elected Prime Minister, so we were on extra special guard.

This is another reason why we do not publish our exact travel itinerary.  When leaving the airport with a full load, one is quite vulnerable.  Our Lord gives His troops wisdom.  We arrived without incident.  Again, THANK the Lord!  Among my suppies were "Bubba" Burgers, fresh tomatoes, lettuce and buns.  We had a great lunch!

After checking in with many of the folks we'll be visiting and helping on this mission,  we made a late evening run to a local orphanage nearby.  We've known and worked with this orphanage for many years.  Their specialty is taking the severe medical children that basically no one else wants.  The orphanage went through a recent administration change.

It was time to get them a brand new Rescuer.  It was with great joy to present this beautiful unit to them.  They'll not have to buy "bottled water" again!  The kids will receive pure, clean water, thereby giving them a much greater chance to survive.  Folks, this is, without a doubt, one of the most satisfying things in ministry I have ever done.  I simply cannot thank you enough for helping me to do this!

From there we headed back to our Village.  The sun had already set.  As a famous western writer, Louis L'Amour, so eloquently writes, "we'd worked from can see to can't see" (actually, our day had begun long before "can see and ended long after can't see).  It was a long day.  After getting back, Barb and I settled down to pleasant evening playing Yahtzee.  Nice way to unwind.

We have plenty of stuff planned, but for right now, we're waiting for the "road report" from our friends spread all over Port-Au-Prince.  We've been warned that things can get pretty dangerous very quickly.  PLEASE pray that Haiti weathers this current storm.  Much of this is not getting in the news and we pray that Haiti simply "calms down".  There is so much work to be done.  The last thing Haiti needs now is a fresh outbreak of political violence.

Well, time to get on with the day.  As I always share, and mean so sincerely, THANK YOU for your faithful prayer, love and support!! God Bless!!

ANOTHER SUCCESSFUL FLIGHT - MY LITTLE CO-PILOT

I was blessed to have Christian, my son and his kids, show up at the hangar yesterday.  After selecting who would sit in the co-pilot seat, little Rythm won.  We took up Ti Burik for beautiful Saturday afternoon flight.  You can see in Rythm's eyes, a deep love for flying!

After years and years of "Restricted Airspace, we were cleared to fly right down the middle of the Space Shuttle Landing Strip.  After the last Shuttle flight, the restriction has been lifted.  Talk about a loooooong runway (15,000 feet).  Christian and Little Christian and Selah were in the back seat as Rythm and I gave them a nice ride.

We're getting very near to making our next flight into Haiti.  I spent yesterday inventorying and arranging our hangar.

This morning, I have a few more things to do and then will be heading to the hangar for some final preparations.  Just a note regarding prayer:  things are becoming very tense in the Middle East.  Between the recent violence in Afghanistan, the tensions in the Strait of Hormuz and Syria, we should truly pray and ask our Lord to guide and lead our leaders.

Time to head to airport.  As always, THANK YOU for your prayer, love and support!!

NEW NASA CAPSULE?? - MORE SHOES FOR HAITI - LITTLE DONKEY FLIES BEAUTIFULLY

Yesterday morning, had a meeting with a dear friend with NASA to extend my badge privileges at Kennedy Space Center (KSC).  All went well.  When departing the NASA Headquarters building, I saw a Space Capsule just outside the O&C (Operations and Checkout) Building.  Sure enough, a crew was just unloading, what may be our next "Manned Space Capsule".  It was a rare privilege to catch this shot.  Thought I'd share it with you.

From KSC met with Doug, one of our great Volunteer / Water Mules and we headed on down to Melbourne to meet with "Delta Rose".  Rose had some wonderful Shelves / Cabinets to donate to the Air Mobile Hangar office.  She also had some more new shoes.  Rose's daughter, Katie has an amazing ministry of finding new shoes for Haiti.  "Daughter like Mother".  Rose has done a superb job of raising Katie.  We're blessed by them both and so are many others.

Once back at the hangar, I met with another great Volunteer / Water Mule, George from New York.  Now, George is the one who introduced us to Doug.  I love the "Network" that our Lord has given us!  George gave me a ride to Orlando to pick up a certain "Little Donkey" that's been all "Re-Programmed" and checked out.

Upon arrival, I thanked Orlando Aircraft Services (OAS) and fired up Ti Burik.  The beautiful Garmin Instrument Panel came to life and all systems were communicating with one another.  OAS had also checked out a number of other systems and all looks good to go.

Made the quick flight back to our home base (about 12 minutes).  Landed, put Ti Burik in the "barn" and dashed to pick up my precious Cindy who was just getting off of work at the Juvenile Detention Center.  Both Cindy and I are so thankful for this great job.  Cindy gets to minister with young people in "distress".  Of course, one of our U.S. outreaches is to "Chaplain" at a Psychiatric Hospital in Orlando.  It is there that we are able to minister with young people in "distress".  Here we go again, "Our Lord knows how to deploy His troops".  Just glad to be named among them and so is my Cindy.

Today, will be doing some more inspections and tests on our "Little Donkey".  It is such a blessing to have this great tool coming into service again.  I've missed flying Ti Burik to Haiti.  We should be heading down there pretty soon.  Will advise.

Time to head to the airport.  We pray that you have a blessed day.  THANK YOU for standing with us with your prayer, love and support.  God Bless!!

THE LITTLE DONKEY GETTING "RE-PROGRAMMED"

All in "good time", I flew Ti Burik to Orlando yesterday to get all of the Avionics re-programmed and recognizing each other and working together.  This is a major step toward getting the Little Donkey back on the "path" to Haiti.  But before taking off, I brewed a delicious cup of coffee in my Kuerig Coffee Pot and took a moment to reflect on this memorable moment.

Meanwhile, Doug and Steve, 2 excellent Volunteer Water Mules, were bringing organization to our Air Mobile Hangar.  Doug was able to snap this shot of our Little Donkey as it leaped into the air.

Upon landing at Orlando, I was met by John and Troy, the Owners of Orlando Aircraft Services (OAS).  They'll be getting all of the Avionics to communicate with one another.

This is such a blessing, to finally get Ti Burik back on the "Mission" of bringing clean water and vital supplies and personnel where it is most needed.  We hope to pick up Ti Burik later today.

Have early morning meetings at Kennedy Space Center regarding extending our Clearance on the Center.  Please pray all goes well.  Will also be picking up some much needed cabinets from "Delta Rose" down in Melbourne.  These cabinets will help us to organize the little office inside our hangar.  By the way, I love that little office.  I can open the hangar doors, and sit in the office and watch airplanes take off and land.  It's particularly pretty in the early morning and the afternoon around sunset.  Ahhh, I love airports!

Well, have already had that second cup of coffee and getting ready to head over to the Space Center.  I ask myself this question, "Where would we be without so many folks helping us and praying for us???"  It leads me back to the conclusion that "Our Lord knows how to deploy His troops"!  I simply thank our Lord for you also.  We're so appreciative for your prayer, love and support!  Have a blessed day!!

A "LITTLE DONKEY" JUMPS A HURDLE - BAD WEATHER PREVENTS FLIGHT TRAINING

One does not usually see a donkey jumping a hurdle (visualize that!), but our trusty Ti Burik did yesterday.  For the first time since the December 16th "Electrical meltdown", I conducted a high speed taxi and a quick flight around "the patch".  The Little Donkey flew beautifully.  Today, if the weather clears up, I'll take Ti Burik to Orlando to have some more tests conducted and get all of the new Garmin Avionics calibrated and programmed.  Yea!  We're getting closer to having Ti Burik back on the "Path to Haiti and beyond....".

This has been a long and arduous road to "recovery", but well worth every step.  We have had the opportunity to go through so many systems and make improvements along the way.  Ti Burik is a better Little Donkey now that we have been able to methodically analyze very single electrical circuit and also make some very cool additions.  For example, we now have digital fuel flow and oil temperature.  We're also getting a much more advanced Auto Pilot system and the list goes on and on.

So, here we are again, finding ourselves the beneficiary of God's Blessings in the midst of problems.  Truly, our Lord can take any situation that we give to Him and make it better.  We simply need to learn to trust Him in ALL situations!  He's still working on me!!

I could see there was some weather moving in from the West yesterday afternoon.  By the time I arrived at Merritt Island Airport to meet with my Flight Instructor, Glen, we both could see from the radar summary that some very bad weather was coming at us fast (40-50 mph).  Right at our projected take-off time, the "stuff" arrived with howling winds and driving rains.  Not a good night for flight training.  So, we had a good "Ground School" session on flight profiles and maneuvers.  We'll fly another time.

We'll see what the weather does this morning (visibility is very low.....touching minimums).  As soon as we can, we'll move Ti Burik over to Orlando for more inspections / programming, etc.  A bit later this morning, will be having lunch with a brother in the Faith and a manufacturing giant.  We'll be discussing the actual manufacture of critical Rescuer components.

Folks, we've come a long with regard to gaining manufacturing control for the Air Mobile Rescuer.  Many of you have been praying with me about this for several years now.  I want you to know that our Lord is answering our prayers!  We're so close to being able to manufacture every component on this life-saving water purifier.  Thank God!!

Well, it's that time.  Need to head to the airport and pray that the temperature and the dew point get a bit more of a spread (when they touch, we get fog).  As always, THANK YOU for your invaluable prayer, love and support!! May you be mightily blessed by our Lord today!!

PS - Just another thought about our "flying donkey" -  I've seen a horse-fly and a house-fly, even seen an elephant fly (remember Dumbo?) but have you ever seen a donkey-fly??  Joe

PARTS ARRIVE - MORE GROUND TESTING - FLIGHT TRAINING THIS EVENING

What a great country!  To be able to pick up a phone, place an order for critical parts from California and they arrive the next day is simply amazing.  Now, I know that we've grown accustomed to being able to do this (of course one does pay for this service), but it is still amazing.  Remember, Air Mobile spends a lot of time in 3rd world countries that are pretty "busted up" and such service is rarely available.  Sometimes, it's just good to "give thanks for the blessings"!

Our electronic components have arrived and Paul and I will be installing them on Ti Burik and doing some more testing today.  We trust all will go well.  We are very close on getting this pretty little bird (or should I say, "Little Donkey") back in the air.  It should be soon!

Our plan is to fly to Orlando, where we'll be re-programming all of the new navigation gear and conducting some more inspections.  This could happen very soon.  We're also awaiting our new Auto-Pilot system.  We are very excited about this, as Ti Burik will have the "latest, greatest" system available.  She is already a dream to fly, but with the new Auto Pilot system, she will be even nicer.  The Auto Pilot system is still being "built" for our specific aircraft. Wow, can hardly wait.

This evening, will be flight training again in the Seminole with Glen, my instructor.  This training is a tremendous blessing.  Speaking of blessing, our Lord led us to a "Grant" that has paid for the training!  It is part of a "re-training" grant offered by the State of Florida for folks who have been "dis-placed" by the shut down of the Space Shuttle Program at Kennedy Space Center.  So, not only does "Our Lord know how to deploy His troops", but he also "Knows how to deploy Funding"......because He owns it all!

You know, after sharing a bit of my frustration with you yesterday, regarding the "seeming set back" of finding a few more electrical components that needed attention on Ti Burik, I've pretty much gotten over that and replaced the frustration with THANKSGIVING!  Even starting this blog today with the amazing ability to "overnight" parts.  The truth is, "We have so much for which to be THANKFUL!  All we have to do is look around and simply begin counting our blessing!

I'm not saying this to "Preach at you", but to remind myself to always give THANKS!  Of course there is wonderful scripture (there are many) that encourages us to do this.  It is found in I Thessalonians 5:18 "IN EVERYTHING....GIVE THANKS FOR THIS IS THE WILL OF GOD CONCERNING YOU!" The verse before that one says "PRAY WITHOUT CEASING" and the verse the verse before that says, "REJOICE ALWAYS"!

So, we come back to JOY.  If we seek His JOY (daily) and PRAY (always) and give THANKS (in everything), I can assure you, it will be a better day.  Now, folks, I shared these little gems with you because.....I need to remind myself of this!  I hope this word of encouragement will be a blessing to you today.  And..... as always, THANK YOU for your prayer, love and support!  God bless!!

PATIENCE WITH THE DONKEY - MORE FLIGHT TRAINING

During some more ground testing, Paul, our mechanic, and I discovered a bit more electrical work that needs attention on our Little Donkey.  At first, I was quite disappointed and then.... I thanked our Lord to have found the little glitch here on the ground and not at 19,000 feet.  I must remind myself of Romans 8:28 "All things work together for the good to those that love God, those the called, according to His purpose".

We have some more parts ordered and as soon as we get them in, we'll install and test some more.  When Ti Burik gets cleared to fly, we'll all rejoice, and in the meantime, we keep marching ahead.  We're continuing to make excellent progress on getting all of the components made for the Rescuer and meeting more folks who want to help us on this "noble quest" of bringing clean water to the thirsty.

Of course, I'm very eager to get back to Haiti but must stay close to home for now to help get our aircraft back in the air.  So, again, must exercise patience and faith that we're moving in His time and not ours.  It seems our Lord is continually teaching me this lesson.

In addition to a frustrating, but productive day with the aircraft, had a most encouraging meeting with Pastor Dave, from the Great Outdoors Church and Barbara Walker (not Rambo in the Blue Dress), our Volunteer Coordinator.  It was so good putting those two together.  Dave has a true heart to help get many Rescuers out and has a great plan to do this.  He and Barbara are working on it.  You know, I can see how being here in the U.S. right now and not in Haiti (where I want to be) is "working for the good".  I must remind myself that He is in control!

Last night, had a wonderful flight training with Glen, my instructor.  We flew the Piper Seminole and did extensive slow flight, stall maneuvers and landings.  Still working on those landing "from the right seat".  For over 8000 hours, I've flown in the "Left Seat".  Believe me, that makes a huge difference, particularly when you're going for a rating to teach other pilots how to fly.  Glen is a good and patient instructor.

OK, even though I'm studying like crazy and it's been a while since I've had to study so hard and I'm being "humbled" by being "stretched", I'm really enjoying this flight training.  I'm literally burning the "midnight oil" studying for my next written test, "The Fundamentals of Instruction".

Will be heading to the hangar this morning.  Have some more meetings and Paul and I will be continuing on the getting Ti Burik back in the air.  Please pray all goes well.

Again, as I reflect on Haiti, the truth is"Haiti will get along just fine" whether Air Mobile Joe is there or not.  That doesn't mean that I'm not going there, it just means that I'm not going there right now.  The reality is, "I'll go when He is good and ready for me to go".  There, I've shared my heart with you this morning.  May I ask you to please remember this missionary in your prayers today.  THANKS and as always, I so appreciate your precious love, prayer, support and undertanding.  God Bless!!

CINDY GOT A REAL SURPRISE!!

Yesterday was a day of secrets and timing!  Our daughters, Juliet and Angelica decided some time ago to throw a real surprise Birthday Party for their Mom.

Now, Cindy is pretty much in touch with everything that goes on in the "Hurston Household", so putting together a Surprise Party was tricky but......we did it.  In this shot, some of the "surprise guests" are awaiting the moment Cindy walked into the kitchen.

Then came the moment, Cindy "rounded the corner" and was greeted by a huge "SURPRISE"!  We did it.  She really had no idea that we had a beautiful party arranged in her honor.  So often, Cindy is "behind the scenes".  She was just blown away that we would do this for her.

We had a lovely afternoon with friends and good food and music and simple JOY!  Again, Happy Birthday, Honey!

Today is President's Day and many places are closed.  We'll be at the hangar working on our Little Donkey.  We've also got some good meetings lined up with some new Volunteers who have some very creative ideas on how to get more Rescuers out, particularly when disaster strikes.  Looking forward to those meetings.

Time to head out to the airport.  As always, I truly appreciate your love, prayer and support! God bless!!

TODAY IS CINDY'S BIRTHDAY (THE REAL MISSIONARY)!

My precious Cindy celebrates her birthday today.  Happy Birthday, Honey!  In Air Mobile, many folks often see "Air Mobile Joe".  Behind the scenes is a true missionary, Cindy.  We met many years ago regarding flights to Haiti.

I fell in love with this amazing, courageous, beautiful lady of God.  So often, it is Cindy that motivates and inspires Air Mobile to GO to help the down-trodden and suffering.  I fell in love with Cindy and her beautiful and loving heart and above all, her deep love for Jesus.  This shot was taken shortly after the terrible earthquake in Haiti. Cindy was right by my side bringing the love of God to so many!

Yesterday, had a wonderful time with over 100 men from "The Great Outdoors Church".  It was indeed a great JOY to share on JOY!  Afterwards, I met with so many dear and precious friends.  These folks truly rallied to the side of Air Mobile immediately following the Haiti earthquake and.....they're still standing so strongly with us.  We had a wonderful time with them yesterday.

It's Sunday morning and the Hurston's are getting ready for Church and then Chapel with the young folks in Orlando.  We have done this ministry for over 14 years as a direct result of my precious Cindy's love and heart to help young people in trouble.  Folks, I PRAISE GOD for my Cindy!  Again, HAPPY BIRTHDAY, HONEY!

As always, I so appreciate you and your love, prayer and support.  Be blessed today!
