BLOG COMING....

ONWARD....

Will be on the road again....(kind of reminds me of a song...) that will eventually lead me to the cabin in the mountains of East Tennessee.

Will be visiting friends and family along the way.

You know, I've mentioned this multiple times in the past, but my heart is so THANKFUL for the wonderful freedom that we have, to get in one's car and simply "hit the road".

No permits or permissions or special authorizations.  Probably won't hit any roadblocks or ambushes along the way.  Just get in the car, and drive wheresoever I wish to go.

May we never take this wonderful FREEDOM for granted!

I recall hearing a radio personality years ago urging his audience to write down (like a journal) what life is like in America.  I must say, that is further reason for my "Rambling Blog".

And maybe, when I'm gone, my kids or my kids kids can take a peek and see what was going on all those years ago.

Now, I personally believe that our Lord Jesus is returning to this earth.  I further believe He is coming sooner than later.  But....if His return is later, than so be it.

Jesus tells us that no man knows the day or the hour of His return.  If I err on any side, may it be on the "Expectant" side.

In other words, I live like He's coming today, but plan for the long haul.

Well, enough of my "rambling on".  It's time to pack up and hit the road.  Have several meetings along the way.

May you be BLESSED today and as I say every single day and mean with all of my heart, THANK YOU for your faithful prayer, love and support!!!

THE "RAMBLING BLOG"....ANOTHER DAY

Often, when I sit to write this "rambling" blog, I have absolutely no idea what I'm going to write.

A good cup of coffee in hand helps a bit.

I ask our Lord to give me the words, but I dare not say that this blog is a "Word" from God.

Oh, our Lord is with me and I may say some words that are encouraging, and for that I'm thankful.

You know, it's been 9 years 6 months of a daily blog.... and haven't missed a day!

My sweet Cindy (who is a gifted "Psych Nurse") says..."Honey, you definitely have something going on...".  But she also knows that "Journaling" is good therapy.

So, here I am on this beautiful Florida morning (we're expecting violent storms this afternoon) writing the daily, rambling blog.

I'm THANKFUL that there are no major disasters going on in the world....at the moment.

We do have some Air Mobile Rescuers "ready to go" should such an event occur.

This is an excellent time to STUDY for that upcoming CFI Check-ride.  And yes, I'm truly having a wonderful time with this pursuit.

I am learning a lot and this study will help me to become a better pilot.  PRAISE GOD!!

I love flying so much and learning more and more about aerodynamic fundamentals and good aviation techniques is a pure joy.

Being able to FLY is a GIFT FROM GOD!!

One of  my challenges is...Scheduling.  My flight instructor, Glen is an airline pilot as is our FAA Examiner.  We're all busy and have to squeeze in the training as we can.

But....we're getting close to that Check-ride!!

So, today, in this peaceful, but stormy day, it's on with books and the study.

As always, THANK YOU for your invaluable prayer, love and support!!!

STUDY - STUDY - STUDY

OK, I do know how to fly an airplane.  Have flown missions all over the world.  Have logged over 9000 hours, but...I have a lot to learn and I hope I never stop learning.

Just read in Proverbs 12:1...."Whoever loves Instruction, loves knowledge.."

During this time that the Little Donkey (AKA: Ti Burik) is down, awaiting the overhauled engine, it's been a perfect opportunity to enjoy intense flight training.

Training for the CFI (Certified Flight Instructor) rating has been an amazing journey and my deep love for flying has only gotten more intense.  And yes, I'm learning a lot!!

BTW, the engine shop that is overhauling the engine recently had an unfortunate fire.  Our engine was not damaged in the fire, but there is a delay in getting the engine done.

Please PRAY for my dear friend, Don George who's shop had the fire.  We're all extremely THANKFUL that there were no injuries in the fire.

We're PRAYING that Don's shop will be put back together BETTER THAN BEFORE!!

So, it's back to the books and prepping for that CFI Check-ride!

As always, THANK YOU for your faithful prayer, love and support!!

JOE, JOE & THE BIRDS

Yesterday evening, I had Pizza with my dear friend Joe Polozola.  As we departed the local Pizza joint we were greeted by "The Birds".

47 years ago, Joe introduced me to Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior.

We were best friends in High School and when our Lord saved Joe, he wanted to see his friend saved also.

"Friends don't let friends go to Hell".

As you may know, I've written a book, "Run to the Roar".  I tell the story of the extraordinary efforts Joe went through to see me come to the Lord.

THANK YOU JOE!!

Joe and I get together on a regular basis and just check on each other to see how we're doing.  I can't begin to tell you how much I appreciate my friendship with Joe!!

Well, today, it's back to studying for my upcoming Check Ride for the CFI (Certified Flight Instructor) rating.

Believe it or not, I'm truly enjoying this study.  I'm learning just how much I DON'T know.  Learning is always a good thing.

So, back to the books.  THANK YOU, as always, for your truly appreciated prayer, love and support!!

BACK IN THE "SADDLE"....

We're back, after our whirlwind trip to Boston (in a Jet Blue Airbus 321) and back to Florida in less than 24 hours.

It was a lovely wedding.  So glad we could attend!

Congratulations Kenny & Molly!!

Now, it's back to studying for that CFI (Certified Flight Instructor) check-ride.

My Instructor, Glen and I will be meeting at the airport in a few minutes.  We're now to prepping for the Oral  portion of the test.

A lot of flight "scenarios", regulations (FAR) & systems, etc., etc.

My brain is full to overflowing.  Hope I don't forget too much.

Time to head to the airport and put some more aeronautical knowledge into this old brain of mine.

THANK YOU, as always, for your invaluable prayer, love and support!!!

THE BEST LAID PLANS...

Cindy Ari and I arrived at the Orlando International Airport on time. So far, so good.

Our Boston aircraft had a mechanical issue and we had to wait for another aircraft.

Time was getting tight to make it on time for the wedding.

Then, we were told to go to Gate 24, then Gate 32, then Gate 24.  Finally, we boarded for Boston.

The wedding was to begin at 5:00pm.  We landed Logan (Boston) at 4:45pm.

We dashed to the curb and a Haitian Taxi driver from Leogane, Haiti got us to the hotel where the wedding was to be at.... 5:03pm....right on time!!

The Wedding was lovely.  Kenny and Molly have known each other for 10 years and their deep love for one another was so evident!!

Kenny's Mom, Debbie passed away 14 years ago.  Debbie is Cindy's sister.

Here's Debbie as a young girl.  She was honored beautifully and remembered and missed deeply.

The Reception was just lovely and here Ari and Cindy in the shadow of the Boston skyline.

Beautiful city!  My beautiful girls!!

So, this morning we're up very early and about to "dash" back to Orlando.

We'll be (hopefully) on time for our afternoon Chaplain service at the Hospital in Orlando.

As always, THANK YOU for your precious prayer, love and support!!

A QUICK TRIP TO BOSTON....

Cindy, Ari and I will be flying to Boston this morning.  Cindy's nephew Kenny will be getting married today.

CONGRATULATIONS KENNY & MOLLY!

I was thinking of the wonder of getting on a plane in Orlando, flying to Boston for a wedding,,,, the same day... and flying back to Orlando tomorrow in time to conduct our afternoon Chaplain service at the hospital!

Wow!  The wonder of technology and the freedom to use it!

THANK YOU LORD for these great gifts.  May we never take them for granted!

At any rate, we wish Kenny and Molly a BLESSED DAY and a wonderful life together!!

Time to head to the airport to catch that "whirlwind" flight.  As always, THANK YOU for your precious prayer, love and support!!!

75 YEARS AGO TODAY....

We do commemorate the 75th Anniversary of D-Day today.

I am proud to be an American.

I am so grateful to the thousands of young men who gave their lives for our freedom on this day 75 years ago.

GOD BLESS AMERICA!!

French President Macron graciously greeted President Trump.  It was good to see this moment of unity honoring those who gave their all.

What these young men did 75 years ago impacted the world that we live in today.  May we never forget their sacrifice!

There are only a  handful of Veterans alive (in their 90's) who are there today.  This will likely be the last time they come to Normandy.

So, on this special day, may we remember and honor those brave young men from the "GREATEST GENERATION"!!

And, as always, THANK YOU for meandering down this path together with me.  So appreciate your invaluable prayer, love and support!!!

THE DAY BEFORE "D-DAY"....75 YEARS AGO

As I watch the "D-Day" Celebrations, my heart cries for those who were lost or wounded on that historic day.

Yet, the courage of so many and the eventual victory, brings joy to my heart.

My father, Master-Sergeant Roger M. Hurston went on shore at Utah Beach.  We honor and salute all those brave soldiers that gave their all that we might have freedom!!

My father was a Combat Engineer in Patton's 3rd Army.  He saw a lot of action, including the Battle of the Bulge.

Unfortunately, he spoke very little about it, as was the case with so many.

May we remember....the price that has been paid for our freedom.

Tomorrow, we remember D-Day.

THANK YOU, as always, for your precious prayer, love and support!!

MY FAVORITE "CLASSROOM"....

Something about sitting in a hot hangar on plastic chairs and talking aviation.  I LOVE IT!

Glen, my CFI Instructor has a lot of aviation stories to tell, as do I.  If you fly long enough, you'll gather stories!

One of the teaching methods favored by the FAA is "Scenario Based Training" (SBT).

This effective method helps to impart knowledge by using "real world" experiences to teach clearly defined objectives.

Glen is teaching me to "weave" those stories into my training syllabus.

Our training aircraft (C-172) is down needing an engine change.  And speaking of engine change, the Little Donkey's engine is being overhauled at Don George Aircraft in Orlando.

I spoke with Don George yesterday.  He explained that his shop had a FIRE last week. THANKFULLY, no one was injured!

Our engine was not damaged, but the overhaul may take a bit longer, as Don needs to get his shop back in working order.

Don is a Believer in Jesus and is trusting our Lord to lead the way.  Please PRAY all works out well.

So, on this beautiful, warm summer day in Florida, I'm studying SBT (Scenario Base Training) in preparation for my CFI Checkride!

As always, THANK YOU for your faithful prayer, love and support!!!

PROVERBS 3....WOW!!

One of my all-time favorites... Proverbs 3.

In this one Proverb, Solomon captures the Grace & Wonder & Sweetness of our Lord.

Our Lord wants us to TRUST HIM (with all our heart) & HE SHALL DIRECT OUR PATH!  AMEN!!

If you haven't read this wonderful Proverb lately, may I encourage you to click here, take about 5 minutes and read it slowly.

PROVERBS 3 NKJV

It will BLESS your heart!  Your day will go better!

Today, will be continuing my "ground school" flight training working on SBT (Scenario Based Training).  I love it!!

May you enjoy a delicious cup of coffee and slowly and thoughtfully read Proverbs 3.  You'll be glad you did!

As always, THANK YOU for your precious prayer, love and support!!!

TIME WITH A... PATRIOT, HERO, NASA LEGEND & A BELIEVER IN JESUS!!

Ike Rigell is all of the above and so much more.

Ariana and I spent some precious time with Ike and his lovely bride, Kathryn (91!) yesterday.

Ari brought Honey (our new little puppy) over to share with Ike and Kathryn.  She also took this shot of us.

Ike is our neighbor and I'm so glad to be so close to a true Legend!!

Ike is 96 years old and absolutely brilliant.  During our conversation I forgot the word "Kindle".  Ike quickly reminded me. He's right on top of technology and sharp as a tack!

Ike's joy and love and wisdom is so apparent and overflowing.

Kathryn is a sweetheart and the two together are like "newly weds".  Again, we're blessed to live so close!

I'm so glad that Ari is getting to know such incredible and wonderful people as Ike and Kathryn!

Have been reading his book, IKE.  Can't put it down.  Ike tells his story with such down-home clarity, humility and passion.  He always brings GLORY TO GOD!!

Here's what Amazon has to say about Ike...

Ike Rigell is a Marine Veteran of World War II. After honorably fighting for his country at the battles of Iwo Jima, Midway, Saipan, and Tinian, Ike went on to earn a degree from one of the top engineering schools in the country, Georgia Tech.

After graduation, he went to work for the Army Ballistic Missile Agency (ABMA), which was later transferred to NASA in 1960. At NASA, Ike was an original member of the launch team at Cape Canaveral, FL.

He was a member of the launch team for the Free World's first satellite, Explorer I (1958), the Free World's first man in space (1961), Chief Engineer and Deputy Director for all Apollo Space Program launches (12 men walked on the surface of the moon), Skylab, the United States first laboratory in space, and Director of Launch Operations for the Apollo-Soyuz launch in 1975 (a joint U.S. and Russian rendezvous in space).

After his time at NASA, he worked for ten more years in the space program for United Technologies and retired as the Vice President of USBI, Florida Operations. Ike and his wife, Kathryn, live in Titusville, FL.

Well, it's Sunday morning here in America.  So THANKFUL for the freedom we have to head to our church of choice and worship our Lord.  GOD BLESS AMERICA!!

And, it's men like Ike Rigell who MAKE AMERICA GREAT!  THANK YOU IKE!!!

And, I'm so THANKFUL to have you on-board with me on this meandering road through life.  THANK YOU for your precious prayer, love and support!!

BACK TO THE AIRPORT CLASSROOM...

Heading back to flight training today.  Glen and I will be doing "ground school", preparing for the Oral portion of the CFI Examination.

A lot of regs (Federal Aviation Regulations - FAR).  Notice all the tabs.  They help me navigate that big book.

And then..... there's the Fundamentals of Instruction (FOI).

The FOI is a wonderful exploration into human nature and is even helping me to share the Gospel more effectively (hopefully).

At any rate, it's rather fun and quite insightful.

I must admit, all of this "studying" is breaking up some "fallow ground" in my old brain.  I suppose that's a good thing.

So, this beautiful morning, time to head to the airport and 'exercise' my brain with Glen as my instructor.

Our flight training aircraft (the C-172) is down for an engine replacement, just like the Little Donkey (Ti-Burik).

BTW, we hope to get Ti Burik back in the air pretty soon.  Ohhh, I've missed flying that sweet bird!!

THANK YOU, as always, for your truly appreciated prayer, love and support!!
